🏃‍♂️ Big news! 🏅

I'm incredibly excited (and a little nervous!) to share that I've been accepted to run the London Marathon 2027!

As both a podiatrist and a runner, I know just how much time, commitment and training goes into preparing for 26.2 miles. Over the coming months, I'll be experiencing the same highs, lows, aches and milestones that many of my patients go through.

Running has given me a real appreciation for how important healthy feet are. Whether you're training for your first parkrun, chasing a new PB, or taking on a marathon, your feet are the foundation of every step.

I'll be sharing parts of my marathon journey along the way, along with tips on staying injury-free, looking after your feet, and getting the most out of your training.

Here's to the road to London! 🏅👣

💙 Diabetes Week 💙

This week is Diabetes Week, an important opportunity to raise awareness of the impact diabetes can have on foot health.

Diabetes can affect circulation and sensation in the feet, meaning that even minor issues such as blisters, cuts, ingrowing toenails or hard skin can become more serious if they are not identified and treated early. Reduced sensation can also make it difficult to notice problems before they worsen.

Regular foot checks are one of the most important things people with diabetes can do. Taking a few moments each day to inspect your feet, wearing appropriate footwear, and seeking professional advice if you notice any changes can help prevent complications.

At North Devon Footcare, we help people living with diabetes keep their feet healthy and identify potential concerns before they become more significant problems.

If you have diabetes, don't overlook your foot health—it plays a vital role in your overall wellbeing.

👣 Looking after your feet today can help protect them for the future.

I’ve been really enjoying the recent spell of better weather—there’s nothing quite like getting outside and going for a good walk in North Devon 🌿👣

Personally, I love walking along the River Taw or heading over to Mortehoe—such beautiful spots to clear your head and get moving.

Walking isn’t just a great way to explore—it’s also fantastic for your health.

✨ Supports joint mobility
✨ Boosts circulation
✨ Improves mental wellbeing
✨ Helps keep you active and strong

Of course, enjoying those walks relies on having healthy, pain-free feet. When your feet are comfortable, everything feels easier and more enjoyable.

If foot pain or problems are holding you back, it might be time to get them checked.

📩 Book an initial assessment and keep yourself moving comfortably.

Tried everything for your verruca… and it’s still there? 👣

Verruca needling targets the root of the problem — not just the surface.

By stimulating your immune system, this treatment can help your body recognise and fight off the virus more effectively, making it a great option for stubborn verrucas.

✔️ Suitable for persistent verrucas
✔️ Aims to target the cause
✔️ May require fewer treatments

If nothing else has worked, this could be worth considering.

📩 Book an initial assessment to see if it’s the right option for you.

Building back into running 🏃‍♂️
One of the most common causes of injury I see in clinic isn’t how people run — it’s how quickly they increase their training.
Your body adapts to load over time, not overnight.
Right now, I’m deliberately building my running volume conservatively. Even though I feel capable of doing more, I’m holding back — because consistency beats short bursts of overtraining every time.
Lately, I’ve been doing a lot of my runs on the Tarka Trail — one of the few places in North Devon where you can get properly flat, consistent miles in. Perfect for controlling training load and building up gradually without the added stress of hills.
Alongside running, I’m also cross-training with weights and rowing. This helps me:
✔️ Build strength
✔️ Improve resilience
✔️ Reduce injury risk
If you’re returning to running or increasing mileage, keep this in mind:
➡️ Gradual progression is key
➡️ Listen to your body (not just your watch)
➡️ Recovery is part of training
A simple rule: it’s better to finish a run feeling like you could’ve done more than to push too far and be forced to stop altogether.
Train smart, stay consistent, and your body will thank you 👣
If you’re struggling with running injuries or want guidance on building your training safely, feel free to get in touch at North Devon Footcare — I’m always happy to help.

Many people feel nervous when they hear the words nail surgery, but the procedure to treat ingrown toenails is actually very straightforward and is something we regularly perform at North Devon Footcare.
During the procedure the toe is fully numbed with local anaesthetic, the problematic edge of the nail is removed, and a solution is applied to stop that section of nail growing back. This helps prevent the ingrown nail from returning.
The appointment usually takes less than an hour, and most patients are able to walk out of the clinic afterwards with a dressing and clear aftercare instructions.
For people who have been struggling with recurring ingrown toenails, nail surgery can provide long-term relief and prevent ongoing pain or infection.
If you’re experiencing persistent ingrown toenails, we’re always happy to assess the problem and discuss the most appropriate treatment options.
