We’ve been sold the idea that health is complicated. That you need apps, macros, expensive protein powders, calorie trackers, and endless supplements just to survive. But our ancestors thrived without any of these modern day “essentials”.

They didn’t obsess over numbers or packages. They simply lived in rhythm with the cycles of nature, waking with the sun, resting with the night, eating food that was alive, seasonal, organic, and grown in real soil. Their bodies were in tune with the earth, not enslaved by artificial systems.

Today, we rise to alarms, eat food stripped of its life force, sit under artificial lights and spend more time touching screens than touching the ground we came from. And then we wonder why we experience chronic illness, fatigue and anxiety, these are just the default symptoms of a destructive lifestyle.

The truth is, your body is designed for simplicity. For real food. For circadian rhythm alignment and a deeper connection with nature. If you strip away the toxic modern lifestyle habits and return to the basics, health doesn’t just return, it becomes inevitable.

It’s not about adding more complexity to your life. It’s about subtracting what was never natural in the first place.

Chronic social isolation elevates circulating inflammatory cytokines, specifically interleukin-6 and tumour necrosis factor alpha, at levels that rival, and in some studies surpass, the inflammatory burden of smoking fifteen ci******es a day.

Your immune system responds to prolonged social disconnection the same way it responds to a pathogen, by mounting an inflammatory response, elevating threat signalling, and preparing the body for damage.

The body interprets isolation as danger because for the vast majority of human evolutionary history, isolation meant precisely that. To be separated from your tribe was to be exposed. The nervous system has not received the memo that you are simply alone in a studio flat in a city of eight million people.

It is responding to ancient programming with ancient biochemistry. The result is a population that is inflamed, cortisol-saturated, and immunologically compromised because of the structural loneliness baked into the architecture of modern life.

The nervous system does not regulate in isolation. It co-regulates, it requires the presence of another regulated nervous system to complete the process. This is not philosophy either, as it is at actual polyvagal neuroscience. Stephen Porges documented the social engagement system of the autonomic nervous system and the way the ventral vagal circuit responds to the prosodic qualities of a human voice, to eye contact, to facial expression, to the felt sense of being in the presence of safety.

Magnesium is required to activate GABA, the brain’s main calming neurotransmitter.

When magnesium is low, the nervous system stays switched on.

Anxiety rises, sleep suffers, and cortisol stays elevated.

Topical magnesium supports calm at a physiological level by replenishing what stress depletes.

Microdosing topical Magnesium throughout your day is the ultimate gateway to a regulated nervous system in the chaos of the modern world.

Magnesium is not just “a relaxation mineral” like people simplify it too be:

It is directly involved in:
* Regulating the nervous system
* Controlling calcium influx in cells (preventing overstimulation)
* Supporting mitochondrial energy production
* Stabilising heart rhythm
* Modulating stress response pathways

Magnesium keeps the nervous system in order.

It modulates GABA, lowers adrenaline and balances calcium.

Low magnesium = tension, light sleep, jaw
tightness, heightened anxiety, cramps, restlessness throughout the body.

Stress, excess sweating, and caffeine all deplete it. Not to mention how most are insufficient in magnesium to begin with.

You can microdose topical magnesium throughout your day, or simply apply it before bed, or on areas of tension on the body, as it’s an amazing supplement for sleep, and a muscle and joint restorative compound.

For thousands of years, humans relied on the medicine of the earth. Plants, herbs, fermentation, sunlight, grounding, breathwork. Healing wasn’t outsourced to a white coat. It was local, intuitive, ancestral. Your great-grandmother could identify plants for fever, wounds, digestion, childbirth, pain, anxiety, and infection, without needing a prescription.

That all changed in 1910.

The Flexner Report, funded by the Rockefeller Foundation, systematically dismantled holistic, homeopathic, and herbal schools across North America and later the rest of the world.

Why? Because you can’t patent a plant. But you can patent a pill, especially when it’s derived from petroleum, which Rockefeller’s empire was built on.

Overnight, natural healing was smeared as “unscientific.” Herbalists were rebranded as quacks. Ancient remedies were erased. Western medicine was restructured to revolve around pharmaceutical intervention, and anything outside of that model was buried.

We were taught to fear the very medicine our ancestors trusted. To see nature as primitive. To see pills as progress.

But the truth is, the synthetic compounds in many modern drugs are just lab-mimicked versions of plant compounds. Aspirin is synthetic willow bark. Morphine is synthetic poppy. Antibiotics are derivatives of mold. But instead of working with nature, pharmaceutical science isolates, modifies, and monetises.

That’s not to say all of modern medicine is useless. Emergency trauma care is life-saving. Surgery is quite clearly remarkable. But the system was never designed to make you well, it was designed to manage symptoms with lifelong dependency.

We are now generations deep into a model that sees profit in sickness, not wellness. One that rarely asks why you’re unwell, only what drug you can take next.

Nature shouldn’t ever be the alternative. The body responds to what it evolved with and when you support the body instead of suppressing symptoms, true healing happens.

They tried to erase healing naturally but it’s still here. Because the truth always survives.

Your nervous system is not a closed loop, it is constantly listening, scanning, and synchronising with the nervous systems around you.

This process is called co-regulation, it occurs through the vagus nerve, facial micro-expressions, tone of voice, breathing cadence, posture, and heart rhythm, your body is continuously exchanging information with the bodies around it.

When you are near someone whose nervous system is grounxded, whose breath is slow, whose fascia is relaxed, and whose internal state signals safety, your own physiology begins to entrain to that signal. Heart rate variability also shifts and cortisol lowers. The brain moves out of hypervigilance and back toward balance. This is measurable, repeatable, and deeply human.

From an esoteric lens, this is what people have always called “energy.” But energy, in this sense, is not abstract as it is the sum of electromagnetic signals from the heart and brain, biochemical signals carried through hormones and neurotransmitters, and sensory input processed below conscious awareness.

Human nervous systems behave less like isolated machines and more like tuning forks as the dominant frequency in the room sets the tone, and your body adjusts whether you intend it to or not.

This is why certain spaces calm you instantly and others make your body tighten, it is also why being around chronically anxious, dysregulated, or emotionally unsafe people can slowly pull your own nervous system into a similar state, even if you believe you are “strong enough” to resist it. Your biological and biogenetic systems do not respond to intention alone, the environment is key.

It also explains why healing has never been a solitary act in traditional cultures. Community, ritual, shared silence, prayer, laughter, and attuned presence were all viewed as emotional luxuries.

These ancient regulation technologies of old created coherence between nervous systems, reinforcing safety, resilience, and emotional stability at a collective level.

If you are working on your nervous system, your environment matters as much as your habits. Who you sit with, who you listen to, who you let close enough for your body to read their energy.

We live in a world that praises logic and dismisses intuition. That medicates symptoms before asking where they came from. That treats the body like a machine instead of a memory bank of everything we’ve lived through.

Modern medicine is exceptional in many ways, acute trauma care, surgical interventions, life-saving diagnostics. But when it comes to understanding the human experience, it’s systemically disconnected.

Disconnected from the wisdom of the body, the cycles of nature, and the emotional and energetic roots of disease.

Western science separated the body from the soul. It mapped the organs, measured the hormones, and learned how to manipulate the biochemistry.

But it forgot to ask why the liver holds anger, or why thyroid disorders are overwhelmingly common in women who’ve spent a lifetime swallowing their voices.

Meanwhile, traditional healing systems like Ayurveda, Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), and Indigenous practices never made that separation.

They didn’t view your organs as isolated mechanical parts, but as dynamic expressions of your emotional, spiritual, and energetic reality.

Ayurveda teaches that trauma can live in your tissues. That digestion isn’t just about food, but also about how well you “digest” your life, your relationships, your boundaries, your stress.

TCM teaches that unresolved grief will weaken the lungs, that repressed anger will stagnate the liver, and that fear will deplete the kidneys, affecting your entire hormonal axis.

Indigenous medicine, in all its global expressions, holds a sacred understanding that healing is not about eliminating symptoms, it’s about restoring wholeness.

But we don’t live in that world anymore. We live in a world of blue-lit screens, 10-minute GP appointments, rushed prescriptions, and emotional bypassing.

Epigenetics teaches us that genes are not fixed. They respond to the environment you create, not just your physical environment, but also the emotional and mental environment you live in.

Healing thoughts don’t magically cure everything. But they do change the hormonal, neural, and immune conditions that determine how your body functions every single day.

Choose words that support your biology rather than sabotage it.

Speak to yourself the way you would speak to someone you love. Your body isn’t separate from you, it’s shaped by you.

Every thought becomes a signal, and every signal becomes chemistry, and every layer of chemistry becomes your lived experience.

This is why your inner dialogue matters more than you’ve ever been told. Not because of “positive thinking.” But because your mind is one of the most powerful biological tools you have.

The study mentioned “Dietary magnesium intake is related to larger brain volumes and lower white matter lesions with notable s*x differences,” published in the European Journal of Nutrition in 2023.

Key Findings ⬇️

Increased Magnesium Intake: A 41% increase in dietary magnesium intake was associated with less age-related brain shrinkage, better cognitive function, and a lower risk or delayed onset of dementia.

Gender Differences: The neuroprotective effects of higher magnesium intake appeared to benefit women more than men, particularly post-menopausal women. This may be due to magnesium’s anti-inflammatory properties.

Those consuming more than 550 milligrams of magnesium daily had a brain age approximately one year younger by age 55 compared to those with a normal intake of about 350 milligrams daily.

These findings highlight the potential benefits of a magnesium-rich diet in promoting brain health and reducing the risk of dementia, especially among women.

We always advocate for topical magnesium as a way to increase daily magnesium levels in a highly efficient way.

While oral magnesium is great, topical magnesium is often more bioavailable, meaning your body absorbs it faster and more efficiently. When applied to the skin, it bypasses the digestive system, avoiding issues like upset stomach or poor absorption due to gut imbalances.

Plus, it goes directly into the bloodstream and muscles, making it a game changer for quick relief from cramps, stress, and sleep troubles. If you’ve been relying only on oral supplements, it might be time to try magnesium transdermally.

Somewhere along the way, humans stopped being human.

Yes we grow and evolve and we move with the times, but this has lead to disconnection.

We really went from singing around fires to scrolling alone in the dark.

From eating with our hands in community beside our families, to microwaving our dinners under artificial blue light.

Our ancestors didn’t need morning routines or “self-care checklists” to feel alive, their aliveness was woven into the way they lived.

They danced because their bodies asked them to. They sang because their hearts couldn’t hold that much emotion without releasing it. They touched the earth because it was the only ground they knew.

We’re not saying to go back to the Stone Age here by the way.

Just a reminder to prioritise community, to nurture connections and to align with nature.
