That ni**le you’ve been “managing”? It’s probably getting worse, not better.

😫We see it all the time — people rest up, hope it goes away, or try random YouTube stretches. Months later? Same problem, often worse when seeing a practitioner could effectively rule out misdiagnosis , get you out of pain and more importantly get you moving forward doing the things you love!

Here’s what the research says 👇

⏰ Waiting = Worse Outcomes
Clinically treating acute injuries before they become chronic is vital.

⚠️ A previous injury is the single highest predictor of future injury.

🛋️ Rest Alone Isn’t Rehab
“Just rest it” is outdated advice. Complete rest causes:

❌ Muscle weakness ❌ Joint stiffness ❌ Poor movement patterns that stick around and comes back when you stop resting.

Modern evidence shows controlled loading promotes faster, better healing.

Most people think they NEED an MRI scan to fix their pain… 👇
But research actually shows that for most common injuries and pain complaints, MRI scans often do NOT improve recovery, rehab outcomes or pain levels.

At AB Sports Therapy & Wellness Clinic, I see this daily.
Studies have shown:

❌ Early MRI scans can lead to more medical interventions, injections and even unnecessary surgery

❌ MRI findings often show “wear and tear” changes that are common even in people WITHOUT pain

❌ Imaging does not improve rehabilitation outcomes compared to proper conservative treatment and strengthening

👉 One major review published in the British Journal of Sports Medicine found that routine imaging for uncomplicated musculoskeletal pain does not improve clinical outcomes.

👉 Research has also shown early MRI use can be linked with longer periods of disability and time away from work.

👉Research has shown MRI findings are often poorly linked with symptoms and pain severity

🔬Hall et al. 2021 – Routine imaging does not improve outcomes in uncomplicated musculoskeletal pain

🔬Graves et al. – Early MRI associated with longer disability duration and increased surgery rates

What actually gets people better is:
✔ The right assessment
✔ The right diagnosis
✔ Hands-on treatment
✔ Progressive strengthening and rehabilitation
✔ Building confidence in movement again

I see clients every week who have had scans but still haven’t improved because they’ve never been given the correct treatment and rehab plan.

MRI scans absolutely have their place when clinically needed…
But for most common pain and injury cases, they are not the thing that gets you better.

Still dealing with a disc injury that just isn’t improving? 😭🥲😫

I see this all the time, and it usually comes down to these 3 things 👇

1. You’re chasing short term relief 💨❌
Resting too much, constantly using heat/ice, wearing a back brace…

It might ease it for a bit, but it’s not actually fixing anything.

Disc injuries don’t get better from avoiding movement — they need the right type of loading.



2. Your lifestyle isn’t helping 🍺💤🚬
What you do outside the clinic makes a big difference.

Poor sleep, stress, smoking, drinking, not moving enough…
All of that slows recovery down more than people realise.

You can have the best treatment in the world, but if this isn’t right, progress will be slow.



3. You’re not with the right practitioner 🤭
This is a big one.

Disc injuries can be complex, especially if they’ve been there a while.

If you’re just getting quick treatments with no real plan…
or you’re not being progressed properly…

You’ll likely stay stuck in that cycle of pain👎

Start doing this if your lower back pain keeps coming back 👇

Stretching your lower back might feel good…

But it’s not fixing the problem.

👉 Stretching does NOT:

❌Strengthen your lower back
❌Recondition the tissue
❌Reduce your risk of it coming back

If you want long-term results, you need to build strength and control.

Start adding these into your training:

1️⃣ Jefferson Curls

2 sets of 10–12 reps
✔ Builds strength through full range
✔ Improves control when bending

2️⃣ Weighted Good Mornings

2 sets of 10–15 reps
✔ Strengthens glutes, hamstrings & lower back
✔ Reduces stress on the spine

3️⃣ Weighted Side Planks

Hold 10 seconds each side
Start with 5 reps each side → build to 10
✔ Improves core stability
✔ Helps take load off your lower back

Add these in 1–3 times per week.

This is how you:
✔ Reduce recurring flare ups
✔ Build a stronger, more resilient back
✔ Actually fix the issue — not just manage it
