Good morning! I hope you're all keeping well...

I'm back! πŸ’« After a few extremely challenging and exhausting months, I am finally through the tunnel and emerging out the other side. Apologies for my absence... I had nothing to give and no words of wisdom, even. But I am excited to get back and kick start our Mindful Magic journey again.

Keep an eye πŸ‘€ on the page over the next few days for details of some taster sessions I plan to hold - these will be online while I check out venues to make sure I get just the right place for in-person classes.

Anyone else feeling that brick wall this week? I certainly was! πŸ™‹β€β™€οΈ I saw this just now and thought it was a great way to not only make the brick wall feel less challenging, but also to use it as a pausing point: use it to stop; breathe; refocus. And and then see whether there is a way round the wall.

I took a rest against it yesterday and am feeling much better today; I've even had a productive morning so far!

Tomorrow brings another big change for our children (and us!)...

I wanted to share this visual (from www.traumainformedschools.co.uk) with you all, as I am sure we are all feeling as anxious as our children are about how it is going to go tomorrow. I hope these tips help to make the day run smoothly!

🧠 Try to stay really mindful of the present moment? If you notice your mind drifting into past mistakes or future worries, stop and notice something going on for you right now ✨

🧠 Use deep calm breaths to support you through tougher moments in the day πŸ‘ƒ

🧠 Check in with your feelings at least once, maybe when you are doing something that requires stillness, like making a cup of tea β˜•οΈ

🧠 After checking your feelings, do you need some creative self care to process something? Writing, drawing, doddling? Get those feelings flowing onwards and outwards.

πŸ’œ How was your snowy Sunday?? β˜ƒοΈβ„πŸ’œ

I have really enjoyed seeing people's photos of their fun in the snow today. Well... I have enjoyed them but also felt a little sad that the fun that everyone else was having wasn't happening in our house...

My eldest - my beautiful, bright, fiercely determined, inquisitve, kind, strong, independent yet dependent, and sensitive 4 year old - was very excited to get out in the snow. So excited that we struggled to get him to put on shoes and a coat before running out into it! But he soon became overwhelmed and frustrated that the snow was not as he expected it to be. Last time we had snow, we built a snowman and threw snowballs. This time, the snow was too powdery and he couldn't make a snowball. 😣

So, 10 minutes after us all running out into the garden smiling and laughing, we were trudging back in and trying to help him calm down. To be honest... it was an intense weekend and this was one of many enormous emotional waves.

I went into school for the day on Friday and I don't think he coped with our family unit being separated. And he worries about the virus.

So... we don't have any lovely snowy family photos, but we have been putting our Mindful Magic into practice this weekend! Breathing our thoughts/feelings out into clouds 🌬, focusing on how we feelπŸ‘€πŸ‘ƒπŸ‘‚, affirmationsπŸ’œβ­, pretending to be loud and quiet animals πŸ¦πŸ€πŸ¦‹, as well as lots of energetic dancing πŸ’ƒπŸ•Ί, big cuddles πŸ’«, apple pie and custard πŸ₯§, and family film time πŸ“Ί. He did help to make an awesome roast dinner too! πŸ˜‹

🀞🏻🀞🏻 for a calmer, smoother week to come... another one closer to a bit more freedom too.

Creativity doesn't need to be about achieving something. As children, we create instinctively...playing, drawing, painting, cutting, sticking...creating a world of fun and joy.

As we get older, we start to believe that creativity must have a reason, a purpose.

As we know, this week is Children's Mental Health Week, and we're sharing some practical tools to try with your little ones to integrate greater emotional literacy to your home life.

Today, one the simplest of our tools...checking in with how we FEEL from moment to moment.πŸ’œ

And there are so many ways to talk about and express emotions.

Consider what they might look , sound, feel or smell like... πŸ‘€πŸ‘‚πŸ‘πŸ‘ƒ

Explore what shape and size and colour the emotions might be...β€πŸ§‘πŸ’›πŸ’šπŸ’™πŸ’œπŸ–€

Use books like 'My Many Coloured Days' by Dr Seuss or 'The Colour Monster' by Anna Llenas...

Today marks the start of Children's Mental Health Week 2021, as well as the start of a brand new month!

Children's mental health has taken a huge blow over the past year, with 75% of young people with mental health problem not receiving treatment, and 1 in 8 children living with a mental health condition.

Yes it's a huge problem, and yes, we truly believe that we will overcome it.

It could be easy to throw our hands up in the air and say 'it's a lost cause'. But it's really not.

Nurturing our mental health, and supporting our children to do the same, can start asap. Right now.

This year, the theme of the week is 'Express Yourself' with many of our mentors running online sessions dedicated to exactly this.

And if you and your children aren't able to attend a session, see how you can find a little time to express yourself today...get creative, wear your favourite clothes, perform, dance, sing, move, write, draw...lean in to the wonderful, magical beautiful YOU ☺️
