Good morning to you all. Every now and then I post an update as to how the clinic is progressing so here we go. It's very much business as usual which sounds negative but really more than happy with that! Clients keep contacting from the village of Collingham and surrounding area which is great.
Common themes of neck pain; plantar fasciitis hamstrings( from cricket and walking football!) keep occurring. Lateral and medial elbow pain from repetitive movements golf and tennis have been to the couch. This I treat with trigger point therapy, massage and of course Acupuncture which is particularly helpful for this issue.

Clients of all ages are contacting Synergy from young athletes to the older generation struggling with pain and general aches, the diversity I enjoy. The conversation and laughs we have whilst being treated is fantastic and I continue to really enjoy this line of work.
Please if you are struggling with a physical concern get in touch and I will signpost if this is out of my remit.
Enjoy the rest of this hot, long and very dry summer!!

The photo is a recent climbing session on Stanage. Climbed to HS 4B to those in the know!

Good morning to you all. Its been a while since I posted.. Synergy is going strong with more clients requiring intervention to keep them mobile and working!
The acupuncture side of my work is increasing running in tandem with my hands on approach. I intend to write a section on acupuncture /sports massage next month so hold onto your hats for that.. Neck issues are always an issue for all ages . An example 2 clients today requiring intervention for the very same. On that I have a small blog attached.
Summer is looming somewhere round the corner!!
Keep moving and call if your body is requiring attention!
Thanks

This months blog targets the neck region and the importance of maintaining a more relaxed shoulder and neck region

Unlocking the Neck Girdle: Why It Matters for Your Performance and Recovery today I want to talk about an area of the body that’s often overlooked but plays a huge role in both athletic performance and everyday wellbeing — the neck girdle.

When most people think about sports massage, they picture someone working on tight calves, hamstrings, or shoulders after a big game or intense training session. But the truth is, the neck girdle, which includes the muscles and soft tissues around the base of your skull, neck, and upper shoulders, is a vital area that affects so much more than we realise.

I’ve been treating athletes, weekend warriors, and office workers for years, and I’ve seen how tension in this area can impact everything from posture and breathing to headaches and even athletic performance.

Why the Neck Girdle Gets Tight

The muscles of the neck girdle — like the trapezius, levator scapulae, scalenes, and sternocleidomastoid — are constantly at work. Whether you’re staring at a laptop for hours, lifting weights, or looking down at your phone, these muscles are under strain.

Athletes often have additional demands. Think of a rugby player bracing for impact, a swimmer rotating their head with every stroke, or a cyclist holding a forward posture for long periods. All of these repetitive movements and positions can lead to:

Stiffness and reduced range of motion
Headaches and migraines
Nerve irritation, like tingling down the arms
Shoulder and upper back pain
Compromised breathing patterns
It’s no surprise that this area becomes a hub for tension, especially in today’s world where many of us are hunched over devices or training hard with little recovery time!!

Benefits of Neck Girdle Release

A targeted neck girdle release in sports massage is about more than just ā€œloosening upā€ the area — it’s about restoring balance and function.

Here’s what I’ve seen my clients experience after focused work on this area:

Improved mobility – freeing up the neck and shoulders allows for better posture and movement.
Reduced pain and headaches – easing muscle tension can relieve nerve compression and decrease headache frequency.
Better breathing and performance – when the neck and upper chest muscles are relaxed, the rib cage moves more freely, allowing for deeper, more efficient breathing.
Enhanced recovery – less tension means improved blood flow, which helps flush out waste products and bring in fresh nutrients to aid healing.
Stress relief – many people carry emotional stress in their shoulders and neck. Releasing this area can bring a profound sense of relaxation and calm.
One study in the Journal of Bodywork and Movement Therapies found that targeted massage of the neck and shoulder region significantly reduced muscle tension and pain, especially in people with chronic neck discomfort (Bron et al., 2011). This shows just how powerful this work can be, both for athletes and anyone dealing with modern-day stress.

Final Thoughts

For me, helping someone regain movement and relief through neck girdle release is incredibly rewarding. It’s not just about treating pain — it’s about helping you move, breathe, and perform at your best.

If you’ve been struggling with tension, headaches, or limited mobility, consider booking a session focused on this crucial area. You’ll be amazed at how much lighter, looser, and more energised you feel.

Your neck girdle might be small compared to other muscle groups, but its impact is massive.

See you on the massage table,
Jez

January which in my mind is the worst month of the year! is nearly over; yes its been wet and grim but the clinic has been refreshingly busy. Ultra marathons and endurance events seem to be in vogue with injuries and niggles that come attached to pushing the human body.
Just finished developing a program for a lady who wants to improve power as well as recover from a tweaked rotator cuff in her shoulder. Again working towards a long endurance event.
Please share my post with your audience if you so wish;
I am pushing my fitness of late having joined a great gym in Lincoln; the environment to me is a huge inspiration, athletes of all ages working away on their own particular goal; heart rehab; power training; cardio smashes its all going on!

That's it for now looking forward to no doubt seeing a few of you on the couch.

I thought I would catch up with you all following a busy year. The photos are a mix of work and play; the climbing is not me! I nowadays follow but still get great satisfaction from a day on the rock.
Synergy Sports Massage continues to thrive in this bustling village of Collingham; I offer a very flexible opening hours from 0730-2000hrs so busy workers can hopefully sneak an appointment pre/post work.
I common theme that is cropping up with all walks of life is lower back pain and restricted range of motion. Maintaining a healthy back is not something we prioritise only when it is too late and the dreaded twang hits hard!
This is a complex area of wellbeing; I intend to put a blog on my website targeting the very same. If you have a concern or simply would like to discuss/plan ahead then please get in touch

Xmas is soon to arrive; a time of the year I really cherish, and unwind with family. I hope the year has been good to you; reflection of your topsy turvy 2025 is healthy mentally. It never ceases to amaze me that a session on the couch is not all about aching muscles and dysfunctional joints.
Have a great end to the year.

Firstly a huge thank you to all those clients who have left a review on Google. This makes a real difference to my business by the very nature of what you have highlighted.
I’ve been utilising Acupuncture and dry needling more of late which has been helpful to various conditions including lower back pain and the Achilles.

An area which is prevalent are sportsman and women concentrating on their chosen sport ( cycling/ running) as an example but neglecting other aspects of their body🤨
Cyclists are ignoring core and upper body which will weaken over time and agešŸ™ˆ and runners increasingingly having lower back and knee issues from hip related dysfunction.

I am training for the long distance ride through France in June 1000 miles and intend to raise funds for Motor Neurone Disease which I feel is a just cause to help working towards a better prognosis if diagnosed.
I will post a just giving link later in the Spring.
Spring is meteorologically speaking here on Saturday so keep active in the warmer weather 🫵
