Physio Antoine was recognised by British Gymnastics on their Instagram and in an article on their website this week! Check out the post on the British Gymnastics account.

This is Physio Antoine’s 3rd year as a member of the British Gymnastics medical team. He is currently in Pamplona, Spain, selected as the physiotherapist to support the British athletes at the Aerobic Word Championships. Antoine also works with the England artistic gymnasts, so between the two squads Antoine is at the Lilleshall National Training centre several times per month.

Physio Antoine has also worked in professional rugby, professional football, and in a specialist cardiac unit in France. If you’re looking for a practitioner with elite experience across a broad spectrum of sports and with specialist cardiac expertise, Antoine is your man.

Week before last it was over to Scarlets Rugby in Wales for more physical profiling. The data collected is used by the club for the purposes of preseason training and risk mitigation, and is also part of Physio Matthew’s PhD on concussion in professional rugby.

Did you know that there are 3 studies that link strength with concussion risk… but there are 10s of studies that can’t seem to find a correlation. Why? 🤔 Consider this… the threshold for brain acceleration required to cause concussion (somewhere in the order of 70-120g) can be reached in as little as 10ms after a tackle. The fastest human reactions, like F1 drivers and fighter pilots, are around 190ms. So potentially, the signal to turn on the muscles has not even left the brain by the time concussion occurs… meaning it doesn’t matter how strong you are if you have no time to turn the muscle on anyway!

That’s NOT to say that strength isn’t important, because it IS! But perhaps it’s not as simple as we think.

Physio Matthew and CSMC are leading the way in investigating WHAT ELSE could predict concussion apart from strength, or what clusters when considered TOGETHER with strength provide the key insight.

Thanks to from who performed the ultrasound imaging and to ._ and .twomey who assisted in data collection on the day.

Here’s a message from Fin Baxter, England International and rugby player. He takes his brain health seriously and he believes you should too. If you or your son / daughter plays any contact sport, but particularly rugby, having a concussion baseline test is a core basic safety measure to start the season.

In the event of a head injury we use this test as a comparison to help determine whether a concussion has occurred or not. We also take measures that give us values that help us determine when you have recovered back to your own baseline level of function. Without this information we are somewhat guessing on both fronts.

There are currently over 700 former pros who are taking legal action for damages associated with concussion during their playing careers. That shows how serious this issue is. If we want to protect the current generation of players, at all levels, then this is a core part of that process. CSMC is the only CCMI Concussion Specialist Clinic in East Anglia and has the expertise to help make contact sport safer you and your children.

With football the flavour of the month, did you know that Physio Antoine has a direct connection to several players who competed at the World Cup? Before CSMC Antoine was with Stellenbosch FC in South Africa, and the Real Madrid FC Academy. During his time in both of these clubs Physio Antoine personally treated several players who played in the US this summer. Here we see him with Iqraam Rayners who played in all 4 of South Africa’s matches this World Cup.

If you take your football seriously and looking for an elite level physio who has worked in football at the highest level, with international athletes, then Antoine is your man.

Massive kudos to CSMC patient Alex Jeckells and Physio Antoine who completed the 10k event yesterday at the Peterborough Running Festival! They crossed the line in 58:50, well under their target time! 🎉🎉 We are so stoked to see Alex hit this milestone. When she first came to us she had been hospitalised, unable to get out of bed for almost two weeks due to crippling back pain. Her journey with Physio Antoine has been remarkable and an example of what can be achieved if you put your mind to it and believe in the process. It’s even transformed Antoine, who would have ever thought we’d see the day he ran a 10k 😉 But it’s also symbolic that when you come to us we are here on the journey with you, sometimes quite literally ⛰️

Last night Physio Ben hosted the first Cambridgeshire support group for Axial Spondyloarthritis (Axial SpA) on behalf of the National Axial Spondyloarthritis Society ( ). Physio Ben is to be the regional support lead in Cambridgeshire and will be hosting monthly exercise and support sessions for people living with Axial SpA in Cambridgeshire.

Physio Ben is himself someone who lives with Axial SpA, going for many years undiagnosed during his professional rugby career. Axial SpA is an inflammatory arthritis where the main symptom is back pain. It is characterised by slow onset of pain and stiffness over weeks and months rather than the acute onset associated with injury. Generally it is worse in the morning and eases during the day. It can be associated with fatigue, tiredness and even night sweats for some people.

SpA affects 220k people in the UK, with the average age of onset being 26. The average time to diagnosis is 8.5yrs so the majority of people suffer for a very long time before understanding what is the true source of their symptoms.

If you’d like to know more about Axial SpA, visit the NASS website (nass.co.uk) or reach out to Physio Ben via email - [email protected].

Congratulations to who graduated from ACL rehab today! 🙌🏽🎉 After one year of graft, she’s ready for the NFL. In a fitting finale Elysia and Antoine got soaked in the downpour while doing an outdoor running session, washing away the tears of the injury ready for a fresh new life!

Well done to long-term CSMC rehabber and EJA player Patrick who fought back from two meniscal surgeries to return to the pitch and Captain his team to the U14 Cup Final today. The team battled back from 0-2 down to lead 3-2 with ten minutes to go but unfortunately it wasn’t to be and the team ended as runners up. It may not have been silverware today but if there’s one thing Patrick has developed through back to back rehabs is resilience, so he knows how to overcome a set back and today’s heartache is just another day on the road to the top.

Patrick worked with grit and determination throughout his long rehab with Physio Antoine and we were stoked to see him back on the pitch driving his team all the way to the final. Well done Patrick 👏🏼
