Shaved this morning… but you can STILL see the hair? 👀

That dark “shadow” isn’t because you’ve done a bad job shaving. Shaving only removes the hair at skin level — the hair underneath the skin is still there, which is why those little dark dots can remain visible.

Laser hair removal works differently. It targets the pigment in the hair down in the follicle, helping to reduce the amount of hair that grows back over a course of treatments.

So even when your underarms feel freshly shaved, you may still be able to see those dark dots underneath the skin. Laser hair removal can help reduce the hair that’s causing them.

Those little red dots after laser hair removal… what are they? 👀

This is a great example of a common immediate response we can see following laser hair removal.

The redness and tiny raised areas around the individual follicles are known as perifollicular erythema and oedema — essentially temporary redness and swelling around the hair follicles.

During laser hair removal, the light is absorbed by melanin (pigment) in the hair and converted into heat. That heat is used to damage the structures within the follicle involved in producing hair.

So when I see this type of response immediately after treatment, it can be an expected clinical endpoint following effective heating of the follicles.

And those dark hairs you can still see? 👀
Don't expect them to disappear instantly. Treated hairs can remain visible for a while before gradually shedding over the following days and weeks.

This is why laser hair removal is a process, not an instant fix — and why treatments need to be repeated to target hairs during the appropriate stage of their growth cycle.

For some people, unwanted hair isn’t just about the hair.
