Runners — recovery matters just as much as the miles.

At the upcoming Running & Wellness Retreat, I’ll be offering Contrast Therapy & Breathwork sessions designed specifically with runners in mind.
Using a combination of heat, cold, and guided breathing, you’ll learn practical techniques to support recovery, improve circulation, reduce post-run fatigue, and help your body recover more effectively after training.
This session isn’t about extremes or simply pushing yourself into discomfort. It’s about understanding how to use contrast therapy safely and effectively as a valuable part of your training and recovery routine.
Whether you’re preparing for an event, training regularly, or simply wanting to take better care of your body, this is a great opportunity to experience the benefits of heat, cold, and breathwork in a supportive environment.

Really excited to be delivering an Oxygen Advantage Running Breathwork Workshop at Coastal Valleys Running & Wellness Retreat on Saturday 13th June 2026.

Most runners train their legs but few train their breath.

This workshop is designed for runners of all levels who want to improve performance, endurance, recovery, and overall efficiency through the power of functional breathing.

During the session, we’ll explore:

I came across breathwork by accident when I attended a Wim Hof retreat. I initially went to learn how to get into cold water - which I did - but knew very little about breathwork & wasn't particularly interested in it at the time. But I left the retreat completely blown away by just how powerful our breath can be & wanted to learn more.

Now I am an Advanced Oxygen Advantage Breathwork Instructor & was fortunate enough to be trained by Patrick McKeown, internationally recognised breathing expert, author & founder of the Oxygen Advantage method.

What sets my approach apart from other forms of breathwork is my grounding on functional breathing - teaching practical techniques that can be used to support stress regulation, sleep, focus, performance & overall wellbeing. My aim is to help people understand their own breathing & use it as a practical tool for everyday health, resilience & wellbeing.

Most people hear "breathwork" & think relaxation, big emotional releases, lying down & guided breathing. Breathe like this for "a feeling" during a session but soon that feeling wears off. I've experienced this so many times. I come out feeling so calm & light until the stresses of everyday life kick in & im back to square one again.
This is where I can help you. Imagine being able to bring a sense of calm into your life when you are at your desk in work or stuck in traffic......

My work is more about how people breathe when they're not calm - and how I can train that.

Breathwork isnt just something I teach in a session; it's a tool you can take away & use wherever, whenever you need it. Your breath is your secret superpower!!

Im Denise the creator of "Freedom by Cold & Breath" & here’s a little about me & why I set up my business.
I used to hate cold water even the thought of dipping my toes in had me running for the hills. But on the other hand I used to see groups of people going into the 🌊🌊 & thought I wish I could do that.

This was until one evening at the end of 2022 I came across the Wim Hof series called “Freeze your Fear” & something just clicked in my brain. I was intrigued watching the effect cold water had on the people taking part & I wanted to experience the exhilaration & calmness they did.

In January 2023 to went to a Wim Hof Retreat. The weekend was life changing for me! I discovered the power of cold water & breathwork. I had an incredibly difficult couple of years in the lead up to doing this, I was dealing with the grief, trauma & stress. My first dip finally silenced my brain chatter. I faced my fear of cold water & realised there was nothing to be scared of. I was hooked & changed my life in so many ways!

Fast forward to today I am now a fully qualified Cold Water Coach. I want to use my journey to help others. Every challenge I have faced has shaped who I am today, reminding me that healing isnt just about recovery its about sharing my lived experience to create a ripple effect of hope & resilience in others.

All my sessions are held in a calm body of water where your feet do not leave the ground. A lot of people ask me is this the same as Wim Hof sessions & it isnt. There is nothing extreme (temperature or duration in the water) in my sessions, instead they are about teaching you about the power cold water can have on you when you calmly surrender to it at your pace in a safe space. With me you will learn what happens in your body, nervous system & mind when you enter the cold & why. While cold water is extremely powerful it can also be dangerous, so in my sessions I also cover how to be aware of the risks. My sessions are not about pushing limits or chasing extremes; its about learning how to use it in a safe, informed & empowering way.

My aim is to create easy & unique access to this training. I can offer 1-2-1 sessions or small group sessions providing a safe & comfortable space for you while guiding you into the water safely.
