£100 for hair can feel normal… but £100 for a 2–3 hour lash set is often called “expensive.” Why?

A professional lash service isn’t just lashes and glue. You’re paying for time, precision, training, safe isolation, styling knowledge, quality products, hygiene and years spent developing a skill.

But lash artists also have a responsibility: if you don’t understand your own value, costs and pricing, how can you expect clients to understand them?

Stop pricing yourself simply because the artist down the road charges £60. Build a business where your prices actually make sense — for your costs, your expertise and the income you need to create.

One tiny adhesive pickup mistake can completely change your retention. 👀

With lash adhesive, more is definitely not better. Too much adhesive can close beautiful volume fans, increase the risk of stickies and create a larger amount of adhesive that needs to polymerise.

And simply wiping excess adhesive off isn’t the answer — you may be left with an inconsistent amount of adhesive and still not achieve the attachment you need.

A few things I always teach artists to watch:

• Pick up a controlled, consistent amount of adhesive — not a huge bead.
• Dip smoothly; repeatedly pumping the fan in and out of the drop can affect your pickup.
• Your adhesive pickup must work together with good attachment and sufficient contact area.
• Don’t blame the glue immediately when retention is poor — check your pickup, placement, direction, preparation and working conditions first.
• Remember: beautiful retention comes from the whole system, not one magic adhesive.

Sometimes the smallest technique correction makes the biggest difference. ❤️

£60 for a 2-hour lash set does NOT mean you earn £30 an hour. 👀

And I think this is something our industry needs to talk about more.

While judging Best Lash Artist of the Year evidence, I keep seeing incredibly talented artists with beautiful work, years of experience… but price lists that seem barely different from what I was seeing in 2021.

Yet almost everything around us has become more expensive.

The biggest mistake?

Looking at the £60 that lands in your account and thinking:

“I just made £60.”

You didn’t.

That £60 is revenue — not profit.

Before you can call any of it profit, your treatment has products to pay for, business overheads to contribute towards and a lot more of your TIME than the two hours your client spends on the bed.

Consultations.
Cleaning.
Messages.
Ordering stock.
Laundry.
Marketing.
Empty gaps.
Booking systems.
Insurance.
Rent.
Electricity.
Training.
Equipment.

The list goes on.

And please don’t build your prices around:

“She’s charging £55, so I’ll charge £55.”

You don’t know her costs.
You don’t know her overheads.
You don’t know her working hours.
And you definitely don’t know her profit.

I’m not saying every lash artist needs to suddenly put their prices up.

I’m saying something much more important:

KNOW YOUR NUMBERS.

Because being fully booked doesn’t necessarily mean you’re running a profitable business.

🏆 A trophy means nothing if the judging behind it isn’t fair.

Being asked to judge Lash Artist of the Year isn’t just an honour — it’s a responsibility.

For me, judging should NEVER be about who has the biggest following, who is most popular, who you personally know, or whose work you’ve seen before.

It should be about evidence, skill, professionalism, safety, consistency, development and achievement.

And judges have work to do too.

Every single entry deserves the same attention — whether it’s the first one you open or the 30th.

Read. Check. Compare against the criteria. Make notes. Go back again when necessary.

If I give someone a very high score, I should be able to explain why they earned it. And if I give someone a lower score, I should be able to justify that too.

You don’t owe every entrant a trophy.

But you absolutely owe every entrant fairness. 🤍

That is what gives an industry award its value.

Many ask why some lash brands can sell lashes so cheaply.

Sometimes the answer isn’t just the lashes… it’s the packaging too.

Ultra-cheap plastic trays may reduce costs, but they also create more plastic waste and are far less environmentally friendly. Saving a few pennies today can come at a bigger cost tomorrow.

When choosing lash products, don’t just compare the price. Look at the quality, consistency, responsible manufacturing, and the packaging too. Not all “cheap” is a bargain.
