Never underestimate the power of a simple game in Forest School!

Games are how we always begin our Forest School sessions. They’re an important part of the day and something the children look forward to. They help us come together, build connections, get moving and ease into our time outdoors.

Today, we were grateful for a little sunshine (when we thought we might get very wet!), a handful of conkers and a willow tree.

With just these seasonal treasures, we made willow hoops and played a few different games, with our conker relay being a real hit!

It was a simple activity, but it offered so much more than just fun.

🌿 Burning off energy, giving little bodies the chance to move, run and release some of that energy.

🌿 Learning to listen, following instructions, concentrating and waiting for their turn.

🌿 Teamwork and encouragement, cheering each other on and learning to work together.

🌿 Navigating competition, experiencing the excitement of winning and the disappointment of losing in a safe, supportive environment.

🌿 Building resilience, learning that it’s okay not to win every time, and that how we respond matters just as much as the result.

🌿 Connecting with nature, discovering that we don’t need expensive equipment or elaborate resources to have fun. Sometimes, a few conkers and a willow tree are all we need!

For our younger children, these little moments are important. Learning to manage big feelings, celebrate others, take turns and cope when things don’t go our way are all valuable life skills. Games give children the opportunity to practise these skills naturally, with support and encouragement along the way.

And my favourite part is, that they were having so much fun, they didn’t even realise how much they were learning!

Sometimes, the simplest things offer the biggest opportunities for growth.

Small hands, big ideas!

We’ve spent today working with Year 2 children, building boats and rafts using natural resources (and a little bit of wool!)

We’ve been completely blown away by the creativity and imagination of the children. It’s amazing what they can create when they’re given the time, space and freedom to experiment, problem-solve and work together.

This little group worked brilliantly as a team to create their very own boat, complete with a canopy!

And then came the moment of truth… would it float?

The happiness on their faces when their boat successfully floated, was absolutely priceless.

These are the times that remind us why learning outdoors is so special. It’s not just about making a boat, it’s about creativity, communication, teamwork, resilience, problem-solving and that wonderful feeling of “We did it!” 💚

CONNECT IN NATURE
Meet our first guest speaker: Nic Cooper.

We’re so excited to welcome Nic Cooper, Mindset & Empowerment Coach, as our very first guest speaker at Connect in Nature.

Nic helps women reconnect with themselves, build confidence and take more control of the thoughts and stories shaping their lives.

During the day, Nic will be sharing some of her favourite mindset tools to help us:

✨ Notice the thoughts that are running the show
✨ Challenge the ones that might be holding us back
✨ Be more intentional about how we want to think, feel and show up, in life, work and business

Expect practical tools, a fresh perspective and, knowing Nic, probably a disco ball or two! 🪩

But, this isn’t just about listening to a speaker…

🌿 Tuesday 10th November
📍 Beautiful Rudyard Lake
⏰ 10.15am–2pm

We’ll begin with a guided walk around the stunning lake and woodland, giving everyone a chance to relax, take in the scenery and naturally connect with others before we head inside.

We’ll then settle in with hot drinks and have some relaxed introductions and informal networking.

Nic will share her mindset and empowerment tools, giving you practical ideas to take away and explore.

We’ll also make space for a little self-care, including a hand massage demonstration using some beautiful products.

And, there’ll be a delicious afternoon tea buffet, with hot and cold drinks available throughout the day.

Most importantly, there’ll be time to pause, breathe, connect and fill your cup.

Whether you’re a business owner, self-employed, work for an organisation, or simply want to meet new people and take some time for yourself, you’re welcome.

You don’t need to come with someone. You don’t need to know anyone. Just come as you are ❤️

Something very exciting is about to begin…

I’m so excited to be starting a new collaboration with my lovely friend Caroline from Accelerate Learning Services, creating and hosting events and workshops together ❤️

Caroline and I met at university around 27 years ago through playing lacrosse, and we’ve stayed in touch ever since. We’ve shared so many chapters of life; children, milestones, adventures, highs and some pretty difficult times too.

Caroline has also played a huge part in my own journey. When I felt lost and unsure of what I wanted to do with my life, she helped me find my purpose. Through her business, I discovered Forest School and rediscovered my love of nature.

When I didn’t have the confidence to believe in myself, she did. She saw my abilities before I could, gave me opportunities and helped me build that confidence at my own pace.

We’ve wanted to work together for a very long time, and now we’ve found the perfect way to do it ✨

We’ll be creating events and workshops that bring people together, encourage genuine connections, create space for meaningful conversations, learning and sharing; and most importantly, lots of fun!

Our first events will take place at the stunning Rudyard Lake in Staffordshire.

We want to create a warm, welcoming space where you can come on your own, feel comfortable, meet new people and simply be yourself.

Our hope is that you leave feeling inspired, happy and connected; to yourself, to others and to nature.

We’ve been busy behind the scenes and I can’t wait to share the details of our very first event this November!

This feels like the beginning of something really special ❤️
