By the end of this training, participants will be able to:
💜Explain the core principles of Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT), including the evolutionary model of emotion regulation and the three systems: threat, drive, and soothing.
💜Understand the impact of recurrent care proceedings on parents, including shame, trauma responses, fear, grief, and mistrust of services.
💜Recognise how shame and self-criticism maintain defensive or survival-based behaviours in parents involved in child protection systems.
💜Apply compassion-focused formulations to better understand parents’ behaviours within the context of trauma, attachment history, and systemic stress.
💜Use practical compassion-focused techniques, such as: Soothing rhythm breathing, Developing the compassionate self, Chair work to address shame and self-criticism, Compassionate imagery, Demonstrate language that reduces threat and shame in professional-parent interactions., Reflect on the emotional impact of child protection work and identify how CFT principles can support professional resilience., Apply compassionate mind principles to team culture, promoting psychological safety and reducing burnout and blame dynamics.
