Our Next Event: Wednesday 13 May
Exploring Ritual & Devotion

We warmly invite you to a pair of sangha nights on 13th and 20th May, when we will have an in-depth look into ritual and devotion, especially in relation to the Sevenfold Puja.

We hope this will be helpful to everyone, from those who are maybe a bit wary of puja, to enthusiasts! There will be lots of opportunities to explore our views and maybe tease out what underlies any resistance to Buddhist ritual.

Do come to either or both sessions, everyone welcome. With metta, Danaketu & Rucilila

We hope you can join us this Wednesday evening for our next Practice (Pūjā) Evening.

Wednesday 29 April, 7-9pm

Please bring an egg cup or similar with you to use in the ritual, and if you’d like to bring a few flowers to help beautify the shrine, that would be great, thank you.

In the teachings there are many references to water; drops, streams, rivers, the ocean…So this evening in our puja we will reflect on some of these; the taste of freedom being like the ocean’s taste of salt, Impermanence like the tiny splash of a raindrop and so on. We will especially consider our intention to let go of self-clinging.

Practice Night consists of some meditation and some ritual, as well as refreshments and friendship. All are very welcome, regulars and those new to the group alike. Don’t be shy; we will always try to explain anything that seems unfamiliar.

Looking forward to seeing you there
Danaketu and Rucilila

Our Wednesday evening sangha this week will be a talk on “Buddhism & the Eating of Meat”

Keeping in mind the first ethical precept of non-harm, is there any justification for consuming meat and animal products?
Geoff will be giving a talk after reading ‘Food of the Bodhisattvas’ by Shabkar. This talk explores Buddhist teachings, perspectives, and their meaning for modern practice.

Join us 7-9pm, 22 April at Sholden Village Hall, CT14 0AJ

Men+ Event in June at Padmaloka - A message from Danaketu:

Dear East Kent Men+, please consider giving your practice a boost with the inspiration of the Great Gathering at Padmaloka, Norfolk, from 5th to 7th June.

If a few of us from East Kent book, we could share transport and meet up as a group whilst there. It’s ideal for mitras and anyone thinking of becoming a mitra soon, and especially relevant if you might be considering asking for ordination.

Do get in touch with me, Danaketu, on 07802807674 if you’d like to know more. The booking link is also below:

Please note: this event will take place at Padmaloka, and has not been organised by East Kent Buddhists

Svenja is returning in May to host our next Women+ Morning:

“Qigong (pronounced chee-gung) is a gentle, mindful movement practice originating from China. Buddhist monks practised qigong in order to strengthen their bodies for long meditation sessions!

Qigong is often called ‘moving meditation’ as it aims to align breath and movement whilst stilling the mind. It is a practice about our body-mind relationship and how we can evoke certain qualities from our environment to be present in our bodies: be flowing like Water - flexible like Wood - heart centred like Fire - grounded like Earth - strong like Metal.

Qigong is excellent for nourishing joints, strengthening immunity, exploring flow and stillness while feeling present and calm. As a Shiatsu practitioner, I combine Do-In, the Japanese way of self-massage, with breath work and simple movement forms. The practice and exercises are fully inclusive and accessible, everything can be done either sitting or standing.”

Afterwards we will be finishing with a shared vegan lunch if you could please bring something along.
We look forward to seeing you there!
With metta,
Svenja, Janice and the team
