❤️‍🩹 Friday Focus – Meet Our Healing Team
(Scroll to the 🌟s to skip the intro)

A few Fridays ago, we completed our series introducing the members of the Deal Spiritual Centre committee.

If you missed any of them, you can scroll back to 5th June, when we began with Anne, and follow our Friday posts from there.

But there are many more people who quietly give their time to the Centre, and so we began a new series… as promised each Friday we will introduce one of our Healing Team.

Our Healing Journeys ❤️‍🩹

Rather than simply telling you who our healers are and listing their qualifications, we asked them to tell us something much more personal:

What led you to healing?

This week we continue with Wendy, in her own words…
☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️

❤️ Wendy — My Healing Journey

“There Is Always Something We Can Do”

I had been involved with The Centre for many years, yet until I became pregnant, I had never really thought about healing.

During my pregnancy I was in considerable discomfort and, understandably, didn’t want to take painkillers. Someone suggested that I go to The Centre and try healing.

I didn’t know what to expect and was a little nervous when I presented myself the following Tuesday.

An elderly lady was in charge at the time and informed me that, because I was pregnant, I wasn’t permitted to receive healing energy.

I left in floods of tears — emotional, in pain and thoroughly confused. It simply made no sense to me.

So I wrote to the Healing Association to ask whether what I’d been told was correct. They confirmed that it wasn’t.

That experience stayed with me. I felt that healers needed not only good intentions, but knowledge, training and an understanding of the people they were working with. Mum, Anne, was already enjoying being part of The Healing Team and shared many of my thoughts.

Thankfully, Spiritual Healing was beginning to develop a structured training programme and, over time, the Healing Clinic became much more professionally organised.

Meanwhile, Mum had started looking into something called REIKI.

I wasn’t particularly interested! 😂

I did, however, look through the manual she’d been given following her first weekend training course. I thought the information was rather sparse and it certainly didn’t ignite an immediate desire to learn more.

Being a scientist by nature, I wanted the how, what, why and when of everything.

As I began researching Reiki myself, I discovered there was no standard formal training programme. I was particularly uncomfortable with the idea that someone could undertake only a couple of days’ training and then consider themselves fully prepared to practise on members of the public.

But I was becoming curious.

When Sean, a friend of Mum and I who had completed his Reiki training alongside her, offered to teach a Reiki 1 workshop at The Centre, I joined them.

This time something clicked.

I soaked up the information and knew there was something in it that I wanted to understand.

I continued learning through to Level 4 — Reiki Teacher.

Around the same time, Mum — by then a Spiritual Healing Tutor and Assessor — had been asked by Kent International Healing Association to help rewrite its training manuals.

I eagerly offered to help.

That project taught me an enormous amount, not only about healing but about working responsibly with patients. The Association was pleased with my contribution and offered me a free Spiritual Healing training course, which I gladly accepted.

Later, Mum and I incorporated much of what we had learned about good practice and working with patients into the Reiki training programme we were developing ourselves.

So there I was — a Reiki Master and Teacher as well as a Spiritual Healer, with a much better understanding of healing and how to work with people.

I finally felt ready to put it all to good use.

There was just one problem.

Because of my own health and physical limitations, joining the Tuesday Healing Team as a regular practising healer wasn’t realistic.

So I found other ways.

I treated family and friends when I was able. Occasionally during healing I would experience what felt to me like being able to “see” into someone’s body — an impression of where I needed to concentrate my attention. At first, I assumed everybody experienced healing that way!

People told me they enjoyed receiving my healing, and I certainly enjoyed sharing it.

But teaching became my first love.

Mum and I opened our Reiki School in 2004. Our aim then — and still today — was to teach Reiki simply but thoroughly, producing confident and competent practitioners who understood the energy they were working with and had a range of techniques available to them.

Yet I still felt there was more I could contribute.

So I invited qualified healers I knew, including former and current students, to join me in a Messenger healing group.

The idea was simple.

If one of us knew someone who needed healing, they could let me know. I would consider that individual’s circumstances and suggest an appropriate approach, then share their name and the healing instructions with the group.

Whenever individual healers had the opportunity, they could tune in and send distance healing.

What started as a simple idea grew and grew, and the group continues today.

I also keep The Centre’s Healing List updated so that names can be included before our Healing Clinics and during Sunday Services.

Sometimes we hear about somebody going through a particularly difficult time. On those occasions, I may organise what we call a Healing Link.

As many healers as possible agree to join together at 9pm on a particular evening and send distance healing to that person. We often arrange these when someone is approaching major surgery or is particularly unwell.

Whatever an individual believes about healing, knowing that a whole group of people are thinking of them and wishing them well can itself mean an enormous amount. People have told us how supported and cared for they felt knowing that they had an “army of healers” rooting for them.

Where appropriate, I can also help arrange home visits when somebody is unable to attend The Centre. On a small number of occasions, such as before major surgery, I have brought a team together to offer what we know as a Tibetan Healing Attunement.

For many years, Anne and Iola ran our Tuesday Healing Clinic together. When Mum eventually needed to step back to care for Dad during his final years, Kelly became Deputy Leader.

Although I’m not physically part of the Tuesday team, Mum and I continue to support Iola and Kelly, discussing the clinic with them, helping when issues arise and participating in Healing Team meetings.

So perhaps my healing journey hasn’t followed the route I once imagined.

But healing is still very much part of my life.

Because teaching became such an important part of that life, I trained as an Adult Education Teacher at Canterbury Christ Church University. I also undertook basic counselling training at The University of Kent, so that I was better equipped to support both students and patients.

Despite my own limitations, I live, breathe and practise Reiki every day, using what I have learned to help others in whatever way I’m able.

And it isn’t entirely about other people.

I have always believed:

“As I give, so I receive.”

At a recent consultant appointment, I was asked how I still manage to do everything I do when she has patients living with similar, significant illness that are so much more restricted.

I smiled.

For me, Reiki gives me focus, purpose and a reason to keep doing what I love. It is part of the way I look after myself as well as others.

And I intend to continue for as long as I possibly can.

Perhaps that’s one of the greatest things my healing journey has taught me:

There are many ways to help another person.

Age, health or physical ability may change how we do it, but they don’t necessarily take away what we have to give.

I don’t know what my future holds, so I am grateful for what I am able to do today.

And I try to live by the words with which each Reiki Principle begins:

“Just for today…” 🙏
🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Next Friday, we’ll meet another member of our Healing Team and discover the story behind their own journey into healing. ❤️‍🩹

🍂 Thinking Thursday — A Change in the Air

There’s something different in the air this week.

The children are back at school, the summer holidays are over and familiar routines are beginning again.

The days can still feel beautifully warm, but the evenings are drawing in. Before long, leaves will begin to turn and summer will quietly make way for autumn.

Nature seems to understand something that we sometimes struggle with…

Nothing is meant to stay exactly the same.

There are seasons for growing and seasons for resting.
Times for beginning and times for letting go.
Times when life feels full and busy, and others when we need to slow down.

Perhaps change doesn’t always have to be something we fear.

Sometimes a new season brings exactly what we need.

💜 Question for thought…

As we move towards autumn, is there something in your own life that you are ready to change, begin… or perhaps finally let go of?

🍂 Maybe we can take a lesson from the trees — there can be beauty in letting go.

🍁🍂🍁🍂🍁🍂🍁

It's Treatment Tuesday

Today at the centre we will be holding our healing clinic. 2pm - 5pm.

**Last appointment is 4.30pm**
** Walk- in slots available after 3pm
** The Centre will close promptly at 5pm due to the evening events preparation. Thankyou for your understanding.

So why not pop up to the centre this afternoon and treat yourself to a healing session. A time to relax and replenish your energies and an opportunity to heal your body and your mind.

Today we offer Mini-Reiki Sessions for anyone wanting to experience Reiki Energy Healing.

The clinic is donation-based and our volunteer healers are fully qualified and insured.

At our clinic the healers practice either Spiritual Healing (some now refer to it as Energy Healing) and/or Usui/Tibetan or Angelic Reiki.

Whichever type of healing you receive you can rest assured that our healers work from their hearts and do everything they can to give you the best experience possible.

Reiki and Spiritual Healing are non-intrusive hands-on techniques for channelling energy and the mini session usually takes around 20 minutes.

Reiki is a type of energy healing and is classed as a complementary therapy.

The Japanese word Reiki means ‘Universal Lifeforce Energy’. It aims to relax you, ease stress and tension and help with pain, sleep and general well being.

Reiki is linked to a range of physical and emotional health benefits, including better sleep, improved mood, and pain relief in published studies. Research suggests Reiki helps the body return to a state of relaxation, which allows it to potentially better heal from damage brought on by stress, injury, or disease.

Our healing clinic doors open today at 2pm and the last appointment is at 4.30pm.

For any Reiki Course information contact Wendy direct on 07889 981154 🙏

☀️ Motivational Monday — It’s OK to Change the Plan

Sometimes we become so focused on what we planned to do that we forget to ask whether it still suits us.

Plans change.

People change.

Circumstances change.

And changing your mind doesn’t mean you’ve failed.

Perhaps the summer you imagined hasn’t quite happened.

Perhaps something you were determined to do no longer feels important.

Or perhaps life has simply taken you somewhere you weren’t expecting.

You don’t always have to force the original plan to make it work.

Sometimes the best thing you can do is look at where you are now and choose again.

There are still days left to enjoy.

They don’t have to look anything like the ones you planned. ☀️

💜 Question for thought…

Is there something you’re still trying to make happen simply because it was the original plan?

Maybe this week you can give yourself permission to change it.

🌿☀️🌿☀️🌿☀️🌿

❤️‍🩹 Friday Focus – Meet Our Healing Team

A few Fridays ago, we completed our series introducing the members of the Deal Spiritual Centre committee.

If you missed any of them, you can scroll back to 5th June, when we began with Anne, and follow our Friday posts from there.

But there are many more people who quietly give their time to the Centre, and so we began a new series… as promised each Friday we will introduce one of our Healing Team.

Our Healing Journeys ❤️‍🩹

Rather than simply telling you who our healers are and listing their qualifications, we asked them to tell us something much more personal:

What led you to healing?

This week we continue with Anne, in her own words…

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

❤️‍🩹 Anne — My Healing Journey

“Reiki Was the Key That Opened the Door”

My healing journey began after major spinal surgery when I was just 35. Unfortunately, it did not go well, and I found myself in plaster on a bed in our lounge for 18 months.

There were some real lows during that time. I had already been attending The Centre regularly for six years, but now I was spending my afternoons alone.

I soon found myself slipping into what I thought was a daydream. As time went on, I couldn’t wait for the house to become quiet so I could do it again. I practised each afternoon and became better and better at it.

I now know that I was meditating.

At one particularly low point, I even bartered with God:

“If you get me off this bed, I will work for you!”

When I was eventually able to return to The Centre, I was still using a wheelchair. At one Service, medium George Jones told me that I would make a very good healer and that I should think about healing.

I remember asking him if that would really be possible with me in a wheelchair.

He assured me it wouldn’t make any difference.

And so my healing journey began.

At that time, The Centre offered Spiritual Healing, so I joined the Healing Clinic as a probationary healer. After two years I received my certificate in Spiritual Healing.

Healing training in 1985 was very different from today! There was no formal tuition, guidance or explanation. At my first session I was simply told to stand behind the patient, put my hands on their shoulders and “think nice thoughts.”

I remember wondering what nice thoughts I was supposed to think about a man or woman I’d never met!

So I prayed.

I would quietly ask for Mr or Mrs Smith to get well and have a nice life, and I continued praying throughout their healing.

After a few weeks, I began noticing warmth in my hands. I mentioned it to the Healing Leader.

“Yes, Anne,” she said. “That is it. That is the healing!”

Before long, patients began asking for me.

“I must be doing it right!” I thought.

But I still felt there was so much I didn’t understand.

So I started looking for courses. I attended as many as I possibly could, gathering qualifications along the way, but more importantly, learning.

Our healers joined the Kent Healers Association, now Kent International Healers Association. My colleague Carol and I were invited to train as Spiritual Healing Tutors, and over the following years we taught many students.

Later, we trained as Assessors for the increasingly formal education of healing students. We travelled throughout Kent and London, and even abroad, assessing students.

As Spiritual Healing developed its formal training programme, we were also involved in rewriting training manuals, with Wendy helping me to put the material together.

But I was still searching.

Our Healing Group attended a week-long healing course at the Arthur Findlay College in Stansted. I learned a great deal, yet another colleague, Sean, and I both felt that somehow there was still a piece missing.

We were looking for the key.

Eventually, we discovered Reiki.

I started saving because Reiki training was expensive in those days — Reiki 1 cost £150 and Reiki 2 £175 — and eventually I enrolled.

I was bowled over.

Reiki gave me the structure I had been searching for and helped me understand so much more about healing and energy.

There was then a compulsory year between Reiki 2 and Reiki Master training. I had no contact with my Reiki Master during that year, so, true to form, I went looking for more courses!

By then I was in my early 50s. In time, I completed my Master training and became a Reiki Master and Teacher.

I must admit that it took me many years to truly understand everything I had learned through the different levels. Eventually Wendy and I joined together and began our Reiki teaching journey through One Step at a Time.

That was 22 years ago.

Since then, many Reiki students have studied with us and gone on to become practitioners themselves. In fact, I believe every member of our current Healing Team has studied through One Step at a Time.

As a teacher, I also felt that counselling skills would be invaluable, so I undertook a Basic Counselling course through the University of Kent at Canterbury. I worked hard for that qualification, and the skills I learned have proved invaluable — I have used them almost daily ever since.

Spiritual Healing and Reiki have become a huge part of my life, and over the last 22 years, teaching has become my passion.

I have loved every healing session and every class.

Healing hasn’t only been something I offered at The Centre. It became part of caring for my own family too.

Around the time I began teaching Reiki, my husband collapsed and stopped breathing. His friends kept him alive until the ambulance arrived, and we were subsequently given a very poor prognosis for his future.

I remember thinking:

“No, I’m not having that!”

Although he was an atheist, he was happy for me to give him Reiki, and it became part of the way I cared for him. He went on to be with me for another 20 years.

When dementia eventually took him from us, I continued giving him Reiki right up until the end. I feel blessed that something which had become such an important part of my own life could also be part of the love and care I gave him.

Looking back, I went from a probationary healer who knew very little, to someone who chased every opportunity to learn until eventually I found Reiki.

For me, Reiki was the key that opened the door.

It helped me understand healing energy in a way I hadn’t before. And once I felt I had a good grasp of that knowledge, I wanted to share it with anyone who wished to learn.

My healing journey began during some of the most difficult years of my life, following major spinal surgery and many years using a wheelchair.

Healing helped restore my self-esteem and gave me a way of giving back some of the help and kindness that had been given to me.

It has been a wonderful journey.

I have worked alongside people who became some of my closest friends. I have taught many students and had the privilege of watching them grow and fly as practitioners in their own right.

And I will continue helping others — and, in doing so, helping myself — for as long as I am able.

Namaste 🙏
