Energy is not controlled by one hormone or one organ. That is why persistent fatigue often needs a wider lens.
This graphic is not a diagnostic checklist and it does not mean every area needs testing. It is simply a reminder that sleep, hormones, thyroid function, nutrient status, metabolic health, stress and wider medical factors can overlap.
The best investigation is targeted: start with your symptoms and history, then use appropriate assessment or testing to answer the questions that arise from them.

There is a difference between being tired after a demanding week and feeling persistently exhausted in a way that is affecting normal life.
Fatigue is a non-specific symptom, which means many different things can contribute. Hormone changes may matter, but so can sleep, thyroid function, iron or other nutrient deficiencies, blood-sugar patterns, stress, medication, infection and a range of medical or psychological conditions.
The most useful starting point is often the timeline: when did the fatigue begin, what else changed, and are there other symptoms alongside it? If fatigue is persistent, worsening or significantly affecting daily life, seek medical assessment rather than assuming you simply need to push through it.

A result within the laboratory reference range can be reassuring, but it does not mean that every symptom has been explained.
If fatigue, low mood, hair changes, constipation, temperature sensitivity or brain fog persist, the useful question is not simply “Is my thyroid normal?” It is “What else could be contributing, and does anything need further assessment?”
Depending on your history, a clinician may consider further thyroid testing and other possible causes. The aim is to interpret results in context—not chase an “optimal” number. Book a discovery call with Hormone Wellness via the link in bio.

Thyroid blood results can look like alphabet soup, so here is the basic pathway.
TSH is produced by the pituitary gland and signals the thyroid. The thyroid produces mainly T4, which can be converted to T3 in the body. T3 is the more biologically active form at tissues. These hormones operate within a feedback loop, which is why one number should not be interpreted in isolation from the clinical picture.
The appropriate tests depend on the reason for testing, previous results, symptoms and medical history. Save this for your next thyroid conversation, or book a discovery call with Hormone Wellness via the link in bio.

Fatigue, low mood, brain fog, constipation, feeling cold and changes in weight can occur for many reasons. That is exactly why it can be unhelpful to assume that every change in midlife is automatically menopause—or automatically thyroid.
A good assessment looks at the pattern, your medical history and appropriate blood tests. Thyroid conditions are diagnosable medical conditions and deserve proper clinical assessment rather than guesswork based on symptoms alone.
If symptoms persist, discuss thyroid function with your GP. For personalised support, book a discovery call with Hormone Wellness via the link in bio.

You do not need to know which service you need before you ask for help.
Some women come to Hormone Wellness because they want a medical conversation about HRT. Others have persistent symptoms and want to understand whether further investigation would be useful. Some already know what they need to do but want practical help putting nutrition, sleep, stress or movement changes into place.
Our model brings GP-led hormone care, functional testing and hormone coaching together so support can be shaped around the question you are actually trying to answer. Not everyone needs every part of the service.
If you are unsure where to start, use the link in our bio to explore the most appropriate route to support.

When you have several symptoms at once, it is easy to feel as though you need one test that will explain everything. Usually, useful hormone care is more of a process.
We start with what has changed, look for anything that needs medical assessment, investigate where there is a clear reason to do so, and then prioritise the next steps. Treatment and lifestyle support can sit alongside each other, and the plan should be reviewed rather than treated as fixed forever.
Keep this pathway for your next appointment if you are trying to make sense of several symptoms at once.

Hormone symptoms rarely sit neatly in one box. Poor sleep can affect appetite and energy, blood-sugar instability can influence mood and cravings, stress can change how we feel physically and emotionally, and thyroid problems can overlap with symptoms women may assume are hormonal.
Whole-health hormone care means keeping that wider picture in view while still taking hormone symptoms seriously. It does not mean ordering every test or assuming lifestyle is the answer to everything. It means asking better questions, using medical assessment and testing where appropriate, and building a plan around the individual woman rather than a generic protocol.
At Hormone Wellness, GP-led care, functional testing and hormone coaching can work together when appropriate. Not every woman needs every part of the service.

Hormone testing can be useful, but usefulness is not the same as quantity. A long panel of results does not automatically provide a clearer answer, particularly when no one has defined what the test is meant to establish.

For most women aged 45 or over with typical perimenopause or menopause symptoms, NICE advises that routine hormone tests are not needed to identify the transition. Symptoms and menstrual history may provide the more useful picture. Testing can become relevant in other situations, including younger women, an unusual pattern, a suspected hormonal condition or a specific clinical question.

Timing matters too. Hormones can fluctuate across the cycle, and contraception, HRT or other medication may affect what a result means. The result therefore needs to be interpreted alongside the woman’s age, symptoms, cycle pattern, health history and the decision that follows.

If you are unsure which form of assessment may be appropriate, explore a Hormone Wellness discovery call through the link in our bio.

The problem with hormone myths is not only that they may be inaccurate. It is that they often turn an individual clinical decision into a rule for every woman.

Blood tests are a good example. NICE advises that, in most women aged 45 or over, perimenopause and menopause can be identified from symptoms and menstrual history without routine laboratory tests. That does not mean testing is never appropriate. Younger age, an unusual presentation, a suspected condition or a specific treatment question can create a different clinical need.

HRT conversations require the same care. There is little evidence that most HRT causes weight gain, and the balance of benefits and risks depends on the woman, the type of HRT and her medical history. HRT may improve important symptoms while other aspects of health still need support.
