If you are tired but wired... this point is for you...
The adrenal reflex. A small point on the sole of your foot that connects directly to your stress glands. Work it the right way... and your body gets the message that it is safe to stop flooding itself with cortisol.
Less drain. More energy that actually lasts.
This is one of the points I come back to again and again with the women I work with at Serenity.

Your body is tired.

So why are you still waking at 3am?

It is not a sleep problem.

It is a nervous system that never got the signal it was safe to rest.

I have spent 19 years working with women who are exhausted but cannot switch off... and I am a mum of two, so I have lived it too.

Everything I know is going into one place.

The Serenity Sleep Toolkit is coming.

I wish more people knew about this point.
The solar plexus reflex point sits right in the centre of the foot just below the ball, and after 19 years as a Clinical Reflexologist it is one of the points I come back to most.
It releases the tension your abdomen holds all day, supports digestion, and helps your breathing slow right down and drop deeper.
Press in firmly with your thumb. Hold for 60 seconds on each foot. Breathe slowly throughout with longer exhales than inhales.
Your body cannot stay in full stress response and deep relaxation at the same time. This point helps tip the balance.

Maybe it’s controversial but after 19 years as a Clinical Reflexologist I believe prescribing an antidepressant to a woman who is running on empty, holding tension in her jaw and shoulders and waking up at 3am wondering what is wrong with her is not helping her. It is giving her a label when what she needs is answers.

Here is why...

1. Your nervous system is not broken. It is overloaded.
There is a difference. A broken nervous system needs medication. An overloaded one needs to be heard, supported and given space to regulate. Most women are never told this.

2. The 3am wake up is not insomnia. It is cortisol.
At 3am your body produces a spike of cortisol... the stress hormone. If your nervous system is already dysregulated, that spike jolts you awake. You are not a bad sleeper. Your body is treating the middle of the night like a threat.

3. The jaw tension and shoulder ache are not stress. They are stored stress.
Your body holds what your mind could not process. Every email you answered at 10pm. Every worry you pushed down. Every time you kept going when you should have stopped. It lives in your body. And it stays there until something helps you release it.

4. Wired but exhausted is not who you are. It is what chronic activation does.
When your nervous system is stuck in fight or flight it cannot switch off. So you are tired but cannot sleep. Exhausted but cannot rest. That is not your personality. That is your body asking for help.

5. You do not need a label. You need your body to feel safe again.
When your body feels safe it can rest. It can digest. It can sleep. It can think clearly. Safety is not a mindset. It is a physiological state. And it is exactly what the right support can help you find.

3am. Wide awake. Counting the hours. Here is how to fix it without another sleeping tablet.
As a Clinical Reflexologist with 19 years experience, if I wanted to sleep past 3am without taking another sleeping tablet… these are the two reflex points I would work first.
Because waking at 3am is rarely a sleep problem. It is an adrenal problem. Your adrenal glands are spiking cortisol too early, and that cortisol is what wakes you. Knowing that changes everything.
The adrenal gland reflex point… just below the ball of the foot on the inner edge. Press firmly with your thumb and hold for 60 seconds on each foot. This settles your stress hormones and regulates that nighttime cortisol spike before it happens.
The solar plexus reflex point… centre of the foot just below the ball. Press in with your thumb and hold while you take five big deep breaths in and out. This calms the nervous system and reduces that sudden wide awake feeling that hits in the night.
Do both as part of your wind down before bed. Not when you are already awake. Do it before. Give your body the signal before it needs it.
After 19 years working with women on sleep… these are the two points I come back to every single time.
Save this for tonight.

Your GP can see your bloods. They cannot see your vagus nerve, and that changes everything.
Save this if you have ever sat in a car park after an appointment wondering why you still feel so awful.
The vagus nerve is the main pathway of your parasympathetic nervous system… the system responsible for rest, recovery, digestion and repair.
When it is not working well your body stays stuck in fight or flight long after the threat has gone.
This will never show up on a blood test.
But the signs are everywhere.
The 3am waking.
The racing heart for no reason.
The digestion that is never quite right.
The exhaustion that sleep doesn’t fix.
The feeling of never being able to fully switch off.
This is vagus nerve dysregulation. And it is one of the most common things I see in women after 19 years in practice.
Three things that calm your vagus nerve today.
One. Slow your exhale.
Breathe in for 4 counts. Out for 8. Even 5 minutes of this sends a direct signal to your vagus nerve that you are safe.
Two. Cold water on your face.
Splashing cold water on your face activates a hardwired vagal response that immediately slows your heart rate and calms your nervous system. Simple. Free. Effective.
Three. Reflexology.
Use your thumb. Apply firm but gentle pressure in small circular movements just underneath the big soft pad below your big toe on the sole of your foot. Work slowly. Exhale for longer than you inhale while you do it. Two minutes is enough to start sending a direct calming signal through your entire nervous system.
Save this. Share it with a woman who needs to see it.

Reaching for a painkiller is not wrong, but it is not always the whole answer either.
I’m a reflexologist with 19 years experience specialising in women’s health.
If you find you’re clenching your jaw and waking up with that dull ache you can’t quite shift… these are the three reflex points I want you to try before reaching for another painkiller.
Because after 19 years, I can tell you most women are not just dealing with a jaw problem.
They are dealing with:
• chronic stress
• nervous system overload
• shallow breathing
• tension sitting in the body all day long
And eventually it starts showing up through:
• clenching
• grinding
• headaches
• neck pain
• tight shoulders
This is why I focus so much on these three reflex points:
• Jaw reflexes
To help release the physical tension and gripping itself.
• Neck reflexes
Because jaw tension nearly always travels into the neck and shoulders too.
• Adrenal reflexes
To support a body that has been stuck running on stress hormones for far too long. and here is what most people do not realise… the adrenal reflex is also really supportive for pain relief. So we are not just easing the tension. We are helping to ease the pain that comes with it too.
Because sometimes the pain is not the real problem.
It is the body holding onto stress for too long ✨
Self-working these points is a great start… but there is nothing quite like a full treatment. I can work your whole body through your feet… and the results go far beyond the jaw.
