CW: Discussions of su***de and ill mental health.
Today is World Su***de Prevention Day - a day to help open up conversations about su***de, challenge the stigma that can surround it, and remind people that support is there.
We're sharing a very personal story from Gemma and her mum, Wendy Mack, who is our Training Manager and also a counsellor.
Gemma has survived three su***de attempts, and in this video she talks openly about her experience, the impact it had on her life and her journey towards recovery.
Together, they offer two very different but closely connected perspectives on su***de and mental ill health: what it can be like to experience it yourself, and what it can mean for the people who love and support you.
Most importantly, Gemma's story is one of recovery. It's a reminder that even when things feel incredibly difficult, life can change, support can help, and there can be more to come.
We believe conversations like this are important. Talking more openly about su***de can help us understand it, reduce the stigma that can make it harder to ask for help, and perhaps help someone feel able to start a conversation of their own.
We're really grateful to Gemma and Wendy for sharing something so personal. We hope their story reaches anyone who might need the reminder that they are not alone, support is available, and there can be a next chapter.
