One of the first changes you may notice when you start Pilates is not just strength or flexibility, but the relationship you have with movement/exercise itself.
People often then become more physically active because movement no longer feels intimidating or uncomfortable. Body confidence grows, you’re comfortable with what your body is - or is not - happy to do.
Making the commitment to looking after your body may feel difficult at first, but the benefits stretch far beyond strengthening or “toning up”.
You’re stronger yes, but your joints are more mobile, less “creaky”, you breathe better, more fully, your pelvic floor health improves, you have more energy, you know how to attend to niggles and aches. You are more willing to try new things, with the confidence in what you know your body can do.
Pilates is for everybody - men, women, young, older, very old, stiff, bendy, injured, recovered - there is a level for everyone.
Just when you think you’ve mastered it - there’s always more to learn, more the method can give you.
It’s a life long journey of discovery and wonder - of just what your body is capable of.
