A lot of people ask me why I no longer like people recording videos in the studio.

I completely understand that getting a piercing can be an exciting experience, and I’m not trying to put a dampener on that. 🫶🏻 There are just a few genuine reasons why I’d rather not have filming going on while I’m piercing, so I thought I’d explain:

• I feel uncomfortable being filmed while I work.
My job as a body piercer is already quite high-pressure, and I personally find having a camera on me distracting and uncomfortable. I’d simply rather be able to focus on my client and the job in front of me.
• You never know how someone is going to react.
Getting a piercing isn’t always an easy experience. Fainting, feeling sick, vomiting, bleeding and having an emotional reaction can all happen. These are completely normal things that can happen during a piercing, but I don’t feel it’s fair for someone to have a camera in their face when they’re already in a vulnerable situation.
• I don’t want to over-educate the internet.
Piercing is complicated. There is a LOT happening in the background that you simply won’t see in a short video. Every individual client is different, and there are countless things a piercer takes into consideration when deciding how, where and why to pierce someone.

Not every piercer does things in exactly the same way, either — and that’s okay.

You cannot learn how to pierce from watching videos online. There is so much knowledge, experience, anatomy, assessment and decision-making that goes into the job that simply isn’t captured on camera.

And unfortunately, videos can also open the door to the internet’s favourite hobby: people who know better than the professional actually doing the job 😂

So, it’s not that I don’t appreciate that you’re excited or that I don’t want you to have memories of your experience. I completely understand why you want to capture the moment.
I allow photos for this reason.

I just ask that you respect that I’m more comfortable keeping the piercing itself off camera. It allows me to do my job properly, keeps the focus on you as the client, and means we can keep the studio a comfortable and safe space for everyone. 🫶🏻

The Claddagh – a traditional Irish symbol representing love, loyalty, and friendship. 🫶🏻👑❤️
I’ve always loved the Claddagh, not only for what it symbolises but because it’s such a special part of our country’s history. I love it so much that my own engagement ring is a Claddagh, and I’ve had one tattooed on my knee since my early 20s. 😂

This client has been with me for years, and honestly, you can tell. Every piercing, every jewellery choice, carefully curated over time to create something that is unapologetically them ✨
