Ten years ago today we got this review for ā€˜untranslatable.’

It was the first piece of writing I put out into the public, at a time when I couldn’t stop writing. I was writing on the tube, at the back of the theatre while I ushered, in the park, writing until 3am in the morning… Writing anything and everything, all kinds of ideas.

When I moved home I stopped writing. I wanted to write, but I just couldn’t get anything down on paper.

I’m slowly getting back into it now, and it’s something I want to dedicate much more time to. Re-reading this all these years later has given me a little kick to make more of an effort with it and get something else out into the world.

I also really love this play. Lilac brought it to life in a way I didn’t even imagine when I was writing it; we were so lucky to have her.

Perhaps it’s time to give it another whirl locally?!

The show imagery was designed by the wonderful, late Franz Budny who had such fabulous energy and enthusiasm - he’s greatly missed šŸ¤

This song was in the play too and it makes me feel so weird hearing it again - a strange kind of nostalgia!

Also…WHERE DID THOSE TEN YEARS GO?!

It’s also my birthday month šŸŽˆ Happy August šŸ¤

Getting space to just be and create was BLISS. It was like a mini Writer’s Retreat! šŸ˜

It can take between 10 and 30 minutes to establish a ā€˜flow state’ - when you’re in a house with an 8 year old that can sometimes be really difficult šŸ˜…

Getting a night away was exactly what I needed to have some creative breakthroughs. This is the year I promised myself I’d get writing again!

The Adelphi ( ) was the perfect location šŸ™Œ

Why slow winter mornings are your best friend as a creative… ā„ļø

After a (hopefully!) busy festive season, many of us are running on empty.

• Performers and creatives coming off panto.

• Makers and designers after back-to-back craft fairs or keeping up with orders.

• Musicians who’ve barely stopped gigging.

Your nervous system needs time to regulate.

The New Year can put a lot of pressure on us to suddenly start anew with lots of resolutions and ā€˜New Year, New Me’ productivity, but that can’t always happen.

Spiritually and seasonally, we’re still in deep winter. The real new year doesn’t arrive until spring.

You don’t need to force creativity right now. You’re allowed to rest.

If creativity flows, then obviously create. But if doesn’t, then don’t try to force productivity.

Give yourself permission to rest.

We also just had the first Full Moon of 2026 last night, so release whatever you wish to release now šŸ¤

Happy New Year šŸ¤

May this new year meet you gently.

No pressure.
No urgency.

Just space…
to breathe,
to be.

And as the New Year dawns,
may you release the belief that you must arrive fully formed,
already certain of the year ahead,
or feeling unafraidbefore it even begins.

Grant yourself permission to start this one tired.
To start unsure.
Just believe in yourself enough to start anyway.

I pray that whatever you carry within you is honoured:
your stories, your scars,
the skills you earned the hard way,
and the quiet strength you had that no one clapped for.

I hope you know that it is safe for you to dream. Big.

But I hope you also know that rest is not negotiable.
It is safe for you to pause.
It is necessary.

Take note:
You are not behind.
You are not late.
You are not broken.

You are becoming,
at the very pace your life requires of you.

So may this year be less about proving yourself,
and more about trusting yourself.

Because you are doing just fine.
