Ruairi Lynch - Sports & Injury Clinic Assessment, diagnosis and treatment of injuries and movement dysfunctions.

Do you know what this injury is called?

If you guessed Osgood Schlatter’s, you’re right 👏🏻

But here’s what most people get wrong: they’re told it’s ‘just growing pains’ and to rest until it passes 😮‍💨

The real issue is usually muscle function around the knee — specific muscles not doing their job, which overloads the growth plate 👎

Once we correct that, kids get back to sport without waiting it out ✅

This is exactly what my 8-week program walks through, step by step — link in bio.”

This 13-year-old footballer was unable to play without pain for 13 months because of Osgood’s pain 😓

When I assessed him, I found 4 key muscle imbalances that are commonly associated with Osgood’s cases 🔑

After 6 weeks of consistent rehab, he was back playing football pain free ✅

This is the exact process I use in clinic:

✔️ Identify dysfunction
✔️ Soft tissue work on compensatory areas
✔️ Activate weak muscles
✔️ Progress to strength work

It’s the same blueprint that’s now being packaged into my 8-week Osgood’s Blueprint, launching soon 🚀

Most kids with Osgood’s aren’t lacking strength.

They’re lacking function.

One of the most common imbalances I find in clinic is a dysfunctional lateral hamstring.

Before adding strength work, I focus on identifying and correcting the underlying dysfunctions.

This is one of the key imbalances covered inside my 8-week Osgood’s Blueprint, launching soon 🚀

Have you ever had your child’s muscles tested for function rather than just strength?

14-year-old jiu-jitsu athlete in clinic this week after being diagnosed with Osgood’s 👎

His biggest complaint wasn’t running, sprinting or jumping.

It was the pain he experienced every time he had to put pressure through his knee on the mats 😥

After carrying out my assessment, 5 of my 6 key muscle imbalances tested dysfunctional 🔐

The pain was in the knee.

The problems weren’t.

So we started by addressing the biggest issues we found and built a simple 9-minute daily rehab plan 🗓️

Nothing fancy.

Nothing complicated.

Now it’s time for him to put the work in 🫡

I’ll reassess him in 3 weeks and see what changes.

Have you or your child been told they have Osgood’s?

Have you ever had pain below the knee cap?

Every week I see footballers with pain in this exact spot ✅

Some are told Osgood’s ✔️

Others are told patellar tendonitis. ✔️

Others are told PFPS. ✔️

Different labels. ✔️

Same outcome:

Pain when running. 😮‍💨

Pain when kicking. 😮‍💨

Pain when jumping. 😮‍💨

The mistake is becoming obsessed with the diagnosis. ❌

The real question is:

Why is the area being overloaded?

That’s where rehab should start 🔥

Rest may settle symptoms temporarily, but it doesn’t automatically improve the things that often contribute to the pain in the first place 🧑‍🔧

That’s why so many young athletes feel better during a period of rest… only for the pain to return as soon as they get back to football, rugby, basketball, or running 🏃

The focus shouldn’t just be on resting.

The focus should be on improving function, strength, and stability so the knee can cope with sport again.

Has your child ever been told to stop sport because of Osgood’s?

12 year old in clinic on Tuesday. On his 3rd appointment 📅

He is back playing GAA and soccer without Osgood’s knee pain 👏🏻

The hospital told him completely rest from all sports ⚽️

He tried resting for weeks, managing games time and icing after games ❌

When certain muscles aren’t doing their job properly, the knee often ends up taking more stress than it should - this is the key when it comes to fixing Osgood’s pain 🔑

So we took care of the muscles that needed to work better ✅

Better function and strength at the knee = less pain 🙌

One more kid back on the pitch and playing sports with Osgood’s pain ✅

Such a pleasure to help these guys say goodbye to their Osgood’s and get back doing what they love most ⚽️

Happy parent & happy kid 🫡

Correcting muscle function for the win 🏆

Can you tell the difference between these two tests?

It could be argued that it’s the same muscle that is being assessed on both tests 🤔

Let me know what you think below 👇

02/06/2026

Does your leg shake or feel heavy on this test?

This is one of my go to muscles to check when it comes to searching for weakness with Osgood’s 🔐

This muscle attaches at the knee and the hip ✔️

The key to beating Osgood’s is finding and correcting as many weaknesses as you can find at the knee and hip ✅

Let me know if you pass or fail this test in the comments ⬇️
