🔬 NEW REFLEXOLOGY RESEARCH | 2026

New research published in Pain Management Nursing has explored the effect of foot reflexology on neuropathic pain in women with Type 2 diabetes.

The randomized controlled trial included 65 women with Type 2 diabetes and neuropathic pain. The intervention group received routine treatment alongside foot reflexology, while the control group received routine treatment alone.

Participants receiving reflexology completed 12 sessions over six weeks.

What did the researchers find?

After the six-week treatment period, the women who received reflexology reported significantly less nerve pain than those receiving routine care alone. The researchers measured pain in three different recognised ways, and all three showed improvement.

The researchers also reported reductions in neuropathic symptoms including burning, tingling, numbness and itching. No intervention-related adverse events were reported.

The authors concluded that foot reflexology may be a valuable complementary addition to routine care for neuropathic pain in people with diabetes.

Research such as this is an important contribution to the growing evidence base for reflexology profession.

Tender reflex points showing up in your treatment -!what does it mean?

Tender reflex points showing up in your treatment -!what does it mean?

What does tenderness in a reflex point actually mean?

A tender or sensitive reflex point can sometimes be noticed during a reflexology treatment — but what does it actually tell us?

Tenderness does not mean that there is something wrong with the corresponding organ or area of the body. Reflexologists do not diagnose medical conditions through the feet.

Instead, tenderness is an observation that an area is responding more sensitively to pressure at that time.
In reflexology, this may be understood as an indication of imbalance or energetic congestion within the system, rather than a structural problem.

Sensitivity can vary between clients and from one treatment to another, so it should always be considered alongside the client’s comfort and feedback.

A useful reminder for practitioners:
Observe, adapt and record — don’t diagnose.

Its official! Reflexology Lymph Drainage (RLD) treatment has arrived at Marlborough Reflexology!

So excited to have completed this amazing and insightful training with 26 Reflexologists from around the world.

RLD is an award winning foot reflexology technique which focusses on stimulating the lymphatic reflexes (specific points) on the feet. A unique sequence that has been created, researched and developed by Sally Kay, whilst working in Cancer care. It is based on the principles of full body Manual Lymphatic Drainage and works by massaging and stimulating specific body lymph drainage points (‘reflexes’) entirely on the feet.
When our lymphatic System is struggling we may experience ankle, leg and arm swelling, feel bloated, congested, sluggish or generally ‘unwell’.

RLD is for anyone with lymph conditions such as secondary lymphedema, e.g. a swelling in the arm after breast cancer
It has also shown to help autoimmune conditions including (fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue) as well as migraines, sinus problems, pre menstrual fluid retention, menopause, IBS, arthritis and numerous other conditions
