Why all the baggage?🧳
What do you not leave the house without……?
I like to be prepared for any eventuality when I hold the Life After Loss Grief Cafe . 🤗
Just in case.
I don’t profess to have all the answers but I generally know where to find someone that might.
Yesterday we had 16 people, peers supporting each other . 4 of them for the first time . I didn’t know those people or their losses so I went prepared. Likewise the support needs of our regular attendees aren’t predictable. That’s the nature of grief.
We had tissues as you’d expect , but interestingly not always needed. Nice biscuits , Tea & coffee.
From experience a spare kettle and first aid box. We can’t fix a broken heart but if you trip on the way in we’re sorted.
Roller banners , poetry books, grief education books, leaflets, pin badges , laptop with stand , speakers for our zoom option and earphones for potential 1:1 chats .
Conversation
cards for if we run out of things to talk about- this never happens.
But, we have them just in case.
Raffle prizes and tickets. Because, who doesn’t love a raffle.
Colouring books n crafts( including a 🦁 there is a reason ) for anyone needing a quiet , mindful moment . Somatic activity cards & gentle affirmation cards.
All , Just in case.
So WHY?
Because you never know what someone may need in the moment. I like to think of it as my grief emergency kit but my most used tool- A set of listening ears 👂🏻 ❤️🩹👂🏻
When people find us they’re not broken , they don’t need fixing . They need people who understand what how they are feeling.
That’s what we mean when we say
“Loss doesn’t have to be lonely. “
