Today I started online university. I'm doing the NIPE course, newborn and infant physical examination. This will mean I no longer have to send my clients and their newborns to hospital for this test I can do it myself. I will need to be supervised initially (obviously if you are happy with this) but it will be so much better for my clients to stay at home.
In other news my girls are in Crete and having a ball. Marcus took them to the airport. I'm winding down for our holiday in July but still accepting clients as long as it doesn't clash with my holiday. Of course I never fully take a break, I'm there to answer queries and give advice and social media will always carry on. Contact me if you have any questions about how I work as an IM.

It's been one year since my first birth as an independent midwife. I took a massive leap of faith and left the NHS on the 8th April and got a client straight away (and featured on Teen moms the next generation). Since then I've had the most beautiful clients, some of the best births and really grown in self confidence and as a midwife. I've relocated to other parts of the country twice, joined a gym owned by an influencer, been on a couple of podcasts and thoroughly enjoyed this new way of working. 18 months ago I dreaded going to work and couldn't wait to retire now hopefully (god willing) I have many more years as an independent midwife.
There have been a couple of down points but that's life and I prefer to concentrate on the positives. Here's to many more wonderful clients and colleagues. I'm looking forward to seeing what this next year brings. Comment DISCOVERY if you want to find out how to work with me.

Congratulations to I know the plan changed but you absolutely smashed it. Proud of you and in awe of how you look after so many children so well. This was me earlier tonight, tired, felt cold layed on my settee nodding off. Now I'm in bed I'm wide awake listening to Miles and both dogs snoring. Menopause is great fun. Busy visits day tomorrow lord help me.

No visits today or babies born. I've had a lovely day at home. Done some housework, walk with the dogs, cleaned a birthpool and some studying. I made a dessert for the family just a trifle but it was appreciated.
Still on call we keep thinking we're on but babe is comfy and will come when ready. They won't be rushed these babies very much on their own timeline.

The answer is 100% yes but it's a little different. All your care in the antenatal period is the same as with a home birth package. All appointments in your home, 4 weekly till 28 weeks, 2 weekly till 36 weeks then weekly till birth. You will also have the same parent education, hypnobirthing course, support at hospital appointments and scans. Postnatal care is also the same with the option of a hospital visit on the postnatal ward.
The difference is the birth. I will attend your home to give early labour support and advice on when to transfer in. I will go to hospital with you but I cannot work clinically as I am not employed by the hospital. I can however be your birth supporter and advocate and support your other birth partners. I can explain things to you and make sure you understand your choices and make the right decision for you.
A lot of women book for hospital support and then change to homebirth support at some point once they get more familiar with me.

" As soon as Joy took over our care from the NHS a weight was lifted. Joy made sure her care had me at the heart of it and that all my choices were listened to. She was like a breath of fresh air! Not only is she a lovely person but also an amazing midwife. All our questions were answered and it eased all our concerns. She was very quick to respond if I contacted her when I was unsure about anything and our visits never felt rushed. She was wonderful with our other children. They also felt very much involved, which was important to us. She gave us great advice for our birth and options we had not thought about. I felt completely at ease in labour and well taken care of.
