You exercise regularly.

You go for walks.
You stay active.
You try to look after yourself.

So why do you still feel stiff?

It’s a question I hear surprisingly often.

The truth is that stiffness isn’t always about how much exercise you do. Long periods of sitting, repetitive habits, stress, posture, and even the way you move throughout the day can all play a part.

Our latest blog explores some of the reasons you might feel stiff even when you’re doing all the “right” things.

Why do you feel stiff even if you exercise regularly? Learn how sitting, movement habits, and everyday routines can affect stiffness and mobility.

Sofa naps.

A very confident decision made by people thinking:

“This position should be absolutely fine for 20 minutes.”

Then somehow you wake up an hour later unable to turn your head properly.

Suddenly - One shoulder feels stuck, your neck sounds like bubble wrap and standing up becomes a surprisingly complicated event

The body can tolerate a lot.

But curled-up sofa sleeping positions are often where it starts negotiating terms.

A lot of people quietly adapt around aches and stiffness without really thinking about it.

They sit differently.
Avoid certain movements.
Take stairs more carefully.
Turn their whole body instead of their neck.

Over time, those little adjustments start to feel normal.

I often hear things like:

“It’s not bad enough to do anything about.”
or
“I thought it was just part of getting older.”

The body is very good at adapting, but sometimes those everyday compensations are a sign that something is not moving as comfortably as it could be.

Sometimes those small changes in movement are easier to notice once someone points them out.

🚶 May is National Walking Month

One of the nicest things about this time of year is seeing people getting outside and walking more again.

Walking is one of the simplest things you can do for your body, and most people naturally start moving more once the weather improves.

The first few minutes can sometimes feel a little stiff after a quieter winter, but once the body gets going, it usually loosens up surprisingly quickly.

Mental Health Awareness Week 11th - 17th May

Mental wellbeing and physical wellbeing are often more connected than people realise.

Stress does not only affect thoughts and emotions. For many people, it can also show up physically through:

For many people, stress can contribute to:

• Jaw clenching
• Raised shoulders
• Muscle tension
• Disrupted sleep
• Feeling physically drained by the end of the day

These changes often build quietly in the background of everyday life.

Taking time to notice how your body feels, moving regularly, and slowing down where possible can all help support general wellbeing.

If your body has been feeling tense, stiff, or generally “not quite right”, a check-in may help you better understand how your body is responding to everyday stress and movement.

Be honest…

When you’re standing still, what do you naturally do?

A. Lean onto your left side
B. Lean onto your right side
C. Stand evenly (rare)

Which one are you, A, B or C?

Most people don’t even realise they have a preferred side…

It shows up when you’re waiting in a queue, standing in the kitchen, or chatting to someone. One hip drops slightly, weight shifts over, and that becomes your default.

It’s not a bad thing. The body likes efficiency.

But over time, small habits like this can influence how muscles and joints are working day to day.

Once you notice it, you’ll probably catch yourself doing it more often than you think.

Acute vs Chronic pain… what’s the difference?

Most people have experienced both, even if they didn’t realise it.

Acute pain is the one that makes itself known quickly.
You lift something awkwardly, tweak your back, or do a bit more than usual… and your body lets you know about it.

It often settles as things calm down.

Chronic pain is a bit different.

It is the ache that hangs around.
The one that comes and goes.
The one you start working around without really thinking about it.

We often hear:

“It’s not terrible… it’s just always there.”

That’s usually when the body has been adapting over time rather than reacting to one single moment.

Understanding the difference isn’t about overthinking every ache.

It’s simply about knowing when something is likely to settle… and when it might be worth taking a closer look at how your body is moving day to day.

What is a Chiropractic Subluxation?

It’s a term you might have heard, but what does it actually mean?

In simple terms, it’s about how the body adapts to stress, whether that’s from posture, daily habits, or life in general, and how that can affect the way you move and feel.

You don’t always need a big injury for something to feel “off”. Sometimes it builds up over time.

In our latest blog, we break it down in a clear, easy to understand way, including:

• What a subluxation is
• Why it matters
• What chiropractors actually adjust
• When it might be worth getting checked

If you’ve ever been curious about what we do, this is a good place to start.
