I’ve been working on a lot of necks lately, let me tell you why this is so important.
There are roughly 600–800 lymph nodes in the human body, and a large concentration of these are in the head and neck region. Depending on the source, estimates range from about 30–40% of the body’s lymph nodes.
The neck actually plays an important role in lymphatic circulation, helping transport immune cells + excess fluid. When circulation is sluggish or muscles become chronically tense, clients start experiencing feelings of heaviness, puffiness, restriction or discomfort.
Tight muscles > restricted flow.
This can seriously influence the appearance of the face + more importantly how we feel overall.
Some clients notice that things like stress + emotional strain start to manifest as dis-ease in the head, face, neck + jaw leaving them feeling restless + uncomfortable.
In Traditional Chinese Medicine, the neck is considered an important pathway for the movement of Qi. Keeping everything flowing + moving through the energy channels is going to be super important for keeping you feeling that vitality.
Ancient wisdoms understood the connected nature of the body in a way that’s modern anatomy is still catching up to.
The neck is often overlooked in our self-care rituals, yet it serves as one of the body’s most important crossroads.
This is why I place such importance on working with the neck, both in treatment and in my own daily rituals.
