🌿 We are in the middle of Spring- — blossom on the hedgerows, brighter mornings, birdsong returning. And yet here on the Isle of Man, the air still holds that cool edge… the kind that makes you wrap your scarf a little tighter while noticing the first brave buds pushing through.

This in‑between season is the perfect moment to stretch, soften, and tend to your nervous system. A time to release winter stiffness and rise gently with the Wood Element.

What the is The Wood Element Lesson?

Wood teaches us how to bend without breaking. 🌿 Flexibility vs. Rigidity. When this energy flows well, we feel adaptable, hopeful, and clear. When it becomes tight or stagnant, the nervous system can feel rigid, reactive, or overwhelmed.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month 💚, a good time to pause and check in with how we’re really doing.

Mental health affects the whole body — our sleep, digestion, mood, energy, and especially our nervous system. Small, simple practices can make a big difference.

This practise uses orienting, a somatic technique that helps the nervous system feel safe by taking in cues from the environment
🧘♀️ Try finding a quiet spot in nature, sit down
(1 min) let the parts of your body connected to the ground feel heavy,
(a few breaths) for sounds nearest to you.
(a few breaths) listen out for sounds furthest from you, then
(repeat 3x) ✨ Mantra: So Hum — “I am that. I am connected. I am whole.”

🌍 Let’s Celebrate Earth Day — Wednesday 22nd April 🌾

Earth Day is a reminder to slow down, step outside, and reconnect with the ground beneath your feet. A gentle nudge back toward simplicity: bare feet on the earth, slower walks, deeper breaths, and a moment to honour the planet that holds us.

🌱 Why Earth Day matters for your nervous system:
Nature regulates us. It softens the edges of stress, steadies the breath, and brings us back into our bodies. Even a few minutes outdoors can lower cortisol, improve mood, support deeper sleep, and anchor your nervous system.

Here are three simple grounding practices:

🍃 Bare‑Feet Morning Ritual
One minute. Bare feet. Slow breath.

🌾 Slow Nature Walk
No phone. No pace. Just presence.

🌬️ Earth Breath Practice
Inhale 4, exhale 6, imagine your breath travelling down into the soil.

🌿 Add a drop of Lavender to your palms for a grounding aromatherapy inhale.
