🌿♻️ Making a Difference in Our Community! ♻️🌿

This morning, two of our Acorn groups headed out into the local community for some litter picking — and what a fantastic job they did! 👏💚

Everyone got stuck in, working together to help keep our local area clean and tidy. Their fantastic efforts didn’t go unnoticed either, with our groups receiving some lovely praise for the difference they were making! 🥰👏

Litter picking is a brilliant activity for developing teamwork, communication, confidence and independence, as well as encouraging a sense of responsibility and pride in our local community. It also gets everyone out in the fresh air, keeping active while learning valuable life skills. 🌳☀️

A brilliant morning, lots of hard work and something everyone can feel really proud of! 💚♻️

🌱🍑 A productive Friday at Acorn! 🍑🌱

On Friday, some of our groups got stuck into repotting plants, developing their gardening skills and helping to keep everything growing beautifully. 🌿🪴

Meanwhile, another group made use of the fantastic produce growing right here at Acorn. Our Victoria plums from the orchard were picked, de-stoned and turned into some absolutely delicious homemade plum crumbles to take home and enjoy! 😋🥧

Activities like these give the people we support opportunities to develop practical skills, work together and experience the whole process of growing, harvesting, preparing and cooking our own produce. 🌳➡️🍑➡️🥧

🍎🌳 Homegrown at Acorn 🌳🍎

Our Victoria plum trees are absolutely laden with fruit this year, and the apples & Pears are coming along beautifully too!

Growing our own fruit is a great addition to life at Acorn, giving the people we support opportunities to be involved throughout the seasons - from caring for the trees and watching the fruit develop, through to harvesting and deciding how we’re going to use it.

We’ve already picked a fantastic crop of Victoria plums, with plenty more still on the trees. Now to put them to good use… 😋

Nothing quite beats produce grown and picked right here at Acorn.

🏅 Good luck to everyone from our group who has chosen to take part in the Lions Doncaster Disability Games today! 🏅

Today is about so much more than winning. It’s about taking part, building confidence, trying something new, supporting one another, and making lasting memories.

The Lions Doncaster Disability Games is always a fantastic event and one that many of our participants look forward to each year. While taking part isn’t for everyone, we’re incredibly proud of those who have chosen to represent us today.

With an early start and a busy day ahead, we hope you all have an amazing time, enjoy every moment, make new friends, and celebrate everything you achieve.

Most of all, have fun, encourage one another, and remember that taking part is an achievement in itself.

🌻 Look what our amazing gardeners have grown! 🌻

We are so proud of these beautiful sunflowers, lovingly grown by the people we support at Acorn. Their hard work, patience and dedication have really paid off, and the results are simply stunning!

Gardening is a wonderful way to build confidence, learn new skills and enjoy being outdoors - and these sunflowers are proof of what can be achieved with a little care and teamwork.

Well done to everyone involved. We think they’ve grown something truly special! 💛🌻

🐄🚜 A wonderful day making memories at Driffield Show! 🌾

What a fantastic day some of our Acorn groups had at the Driffield Show! From meeting the animals and exploring the exhibits to enjoying the entertainment, shopping, and, of course, a few tasty treats, there was something for everyone to enjoy.

The smiles, laughter, and excitement throughout the day made it extra special. Days like these are all about trying new experiences, spending quality time together, and creating memories that will last.

A huge thank you to everyone who helped make the trip possible and to the organisers of Driffield Show for putting on such a brilliant event. We all had an amazing time and are already looking forward to next year’s visit!

This week we visited Driffield Food Bank to donate some of our homegrown produce. We picked fresh beans and dug up potatoes from the allotment that morning before taking them straight down to the food bank.

The team were incredibly grateful and kindly gave us a tour, explaining everything they do behind the scenes. It was truly eye-opening to see the scale of the operation and the huge number of volunteers who give their time to help local people in need. They do an amazing job, and we’re so grateful for the opportunity to support them.

A huge thank you to everyone at Driffield Food Bank for the warm welcome and for the incredible work you do for our community. We’re proud to play a small part in supporting such a fantastic organisation. 🌱🫛🥔

🎶 “Shake, shake, shake…🎶

Well… that’s exactly what one of our Acorn groups did this week - except they were shaking cream to make their very own butter! 🧈💪

There was plenty of laughter, lots of determination, and a few aching arms along the way, but everyone kept going. It was amazing to watch the cream slowly transform into fresh butter, and even better when everyone got to taste the finished result!

Activities like this are a fantastic way to develop life skills, encourage teamwork and patience, and, most importantly, have lots of fun together.

We think you’ll agree… all that shaking was definitely worth it! 🤩 🧈

Last Friday night, we may not have brought home the trophy, but we left Birmingham incredibly proud.

To have been selected as one of just eight finalists in our category at the National Learning Disability & Autism Awards 2026 is an achievement we will never take for granted.

Being recognised alongside so many inspiring individuals and organisations was a powerful reminder of how important this sector is - and of the many people who work every day to make a positive difference in the lives of others.

At Acorn, we have always believed that success is not measured by awards alone. It is measured in confidence gained, friendships formed, opportunities created, and the smiles we see every day.

Thank you to everyone who has supported us, believed in us and been part of our journey. To our individuals, families, staff team and supporters - this finalist recognition is something we are all incredibly proud to share.

We also had a fabulous evening networking and meeting so many wonderful people. A special mention to Peter Andre, our presenter for the evening, who was such a genuine and lovely man.

We will continue doing what we love most: helping people achieve, belong and thrive.
