Turtle Tots is an innovative and unique swimming programme, which begins during pregnancy and continues once your baby is born. Mums-to-be can join our Turtle Tums aquanatal yoga classes which help you prepare for pregnancy and birth. Once your baby is born you can join our Turtle Tots and Turtle Toddlers programme which teaches you how to teach your child to swim in a relaxed and sociable environment. All our programmes have been devised in conjunction with a personal trainer to ensure that mums (and dads!) receive a work-out while swimming with their babies to help with post-natal fitness and well-being. “You’ll need a double nappy for swimming.” Sorry… a what?!
If you’re a first-time parent, you’re apparently expected to know an entire new language overnight.
And double nappy is one of those phrases that makes perfect sense once somebody actually explains it.

For Turtle Tots lessons, babies and toddlers who aren’t toilet trained need a secure swim-nappy system designed to help prevent any little poolside disasters.
In simple terms, that usually means:

Layer 1: a disposable or reusable swim nappy.
Layer 2: a snug-fitting approved swim nappy worn over the top to create that extra barrier.

It isn’t about keeping wee in- swim nappies don’t work like everyday nappies in water. The important job is helping to contain anything more… substantial. 😅
So when you hear us talking about a double nappy system, it simply means those two layers working together.
No need to stand in the changing room wondering which one goes where.

And if you’re ever unsure what you need for your Turtle Tots class, just ask us before your lesson. We’d much rather answer the question than have you panic-buying swim nappies at 10pm the night before.
Save this one for your first swimming lesson packing list.

When the park’s looking soggy and it’s getting dark before teatime, having something lovely in the diary makes all the difference.

Join us for songs, splashes and time together in the pool, while your little one builds confidence in the water at their own pace.
Our new term starts from 21st October at Glynhill Hotel Renfrew, Buchanan Arms Hotel in Drymen and Cleveden Secondary in Glasgow's west end. Lessons run through to mid-December. We have spaces for ages 6 months and up across various classes and days, so now’s a good time to find a lesson that fits your week.

Cameron House’s term is already underway, with just ONE space remaining in each class!

Whether you’re joining us for your very first splash or coming back for more, we’d love to see you. Don’t leave it too long if you’ve got a particular class in mind.

They did it happily last week, this week? Nope, it's not for them...
Toddler swimming progress is rarely a neat little straight line.

One week they’re jumping in, kicking away and joining in with everything. The next week they might want to stay glued to you, refuse something they’ve done loads of times before or simply decide that today is not the day. That doesn’t mean they’ve lost confidence or gone backwards.

Toddlers are learning so much at once. Their moods change, their awareness changes and sometimes something familiar suddenly feels completely different.

At Turtle Tots, we work with the child who turns up that day. Sometimes progress means trying a new skill. Some days it means watching first, having a cuddle, joining in for one little bit and deciding they’ll try again next week.
Two steps forward and one step sideways is still progress.

If your little one is going through one of those “it's not for me” phases at swimming just now, you are definitely not the only one.

Heading somewhere sunny this October holiday? ☀️

A hotel pool, a day at the beach, maybe even a few lazy afternoons by the water… for lots of families, the October break is the perfect chance to squeeze in a little sunshine before winter really kicks in.

And if your little one has been coming to swimming lessons, it can be lovely to see some of those familiar skills pop up on holiday too- holding on, getting in safely, floating, kicking, listening to instructions around the water.

But one really important thing to remember is this:
Swimming lessons help build confidence and water skills. They don’t make young children water-safe without an adult. Toddlers can be quick, curious and very confident around water, so close adult supervision is still essential around pools, beaches and anywhere else there’s water.

So enjoy the sunshine, enjoy the splashing, enjoy watching them show off what they’ve learned…
Just keep those grown-up eyes close.

Sometimes the biggest difference in the pool is the person cheering your little one on.
This World Teachers’ Day, we’re celebrating our wonderful Turtle Tots teaching team.

The patience when a little one needs more time, the familiar songs that bring out a smile. The encouragement to try again, and the high five when something finally clicks.
You’ve told us how much those moments mean. In your feedback, you’ve shared stories of children growing in confidence, parents feeling more at ease and swimming becoming a highlight of your week.

Behind those moments are teachers who take the time to get to know your family, adapt to different needs and make learning feel fun.
To every member of our teaching team: thank you for the care, enthusiasm and kindness you bring to the pool.

Has a Turtle Tots teacher made a difference to your family? Leave them a wee message below- we’d love to share the appreciation!

Hello, October 🍂🎃
Pumpkins and bats are starting to appear, the evenings are getting cosier, and somehow we’re already in the last few months of the year!

There’s lots to look forward to this month, including a wee break for the school holidays at most of our venues. But first, we’ve still got swimming lessons, familiar songs and plenty of splashing to enjoy.

If you’ve been thinking about bringing your baby or toddler along, you don’t need to wait for a new term to ask. Get in touch and we’ll help you find a suitable class with a space available.

There are lots of skills that you don’t see on a swimming certificate. Of course, learning to swim matters.
But there’s so much more happening in our swimming lessons.
It’s the confidence to have another go when something feels tricky. The determination that grows each time they try a skill again and again.
The independence that grows when they start doing a little more for themselves.

Then there's social side too- watching others, taking turns, joining in, listening and learning as part of a group. Sometimes, it’s just learning that they can do something they weren’t quite sure about before.

So yes, we’re teaching swimming and water safety but we’re also helping children build skills they can carry with them outside of the pool for years to come.

Two-year-olds have opinions. Lots of them, they want to do it themselves, except when they absolutely do not want to do it themselves.

They loved that game last week- but not today, and the word NO can become a regular part of their vocabulary. That growing independence is completely normal- and it’s actually part of what makes this age such a brilliant stage for swimming.

Our toddler lessons aren’t about expecting every child to follow the exact same instruction at the exact same time.
We use games, repetition and familiar activities while giving little swimmers opportunities to try things with a bit more independence when they’re ready. Jumping in, kicking, holding on, moving through the water and gradually needing a little less help from their grown-up all become part of the fun.

Some weeks they’ll surprise you with what they can do. Other weeks they'll just say no.😂

Last week they loved swimming. This week they’re clinging to you and refusing to join in. What happened? Probably nothing at all.

Little ones can feel tired, hungry, under the weather or simply overwhelmed on a particular day. Their confidence may wobble even when they’ve previously been happy in the pool.
There’s no pressure to perform at Turtle Tots. They can stay close, watch for a while and join in when they feel ready, with their grown-up and teacher there to reassure them.

One unsettled lesson doesn’t mean they’ve stopped enjoying swimming, sometimes they’re just having a very toddler kind of day!

Your toddler thinks they’re just having fun. Their brain and body are doing a LOT. 💦
Swimming lessons are full of ways that support development without your toddler even realising it.

They’re listening to instructions.
Watching and copying.
Using their balance and coordination.
Learning to move their body in new ways.
Taking turns.
Building confidence.
Trying again when something feels tricky.

Research from Griffith University, in Australia, involving thousands of under-fives found that children taking part in early swimming lessons were ahead in a number of developmental areas, including language, numeracy and visual-motor skills.

That doesn’t mean swimming lessons magically make children “smarter”. What it does show is just how much learning can be happening through movement, repetition, play and interaction.

And in our Sea Lion classes for 15–26 month olds, that’s exactly what we see: lots of fun on the surface, with plenty of learning going on underneath too.
