The average persons inferior and superior labial artery can be as little as 3mm deep, the needles we use are 1mm thick.

So yes, we are close to the artery, however, knowledge really is power, FLM practitioners are advanced complications trained and have an in depth knowledge of the route the arteries take and the depth.
