Some urinary symptoms really are worth a second look.

Mr Ben Dreyer's plain-spoken guide to what is, and is not, normal:

• Recurrent UTIs (more than one or two a year)
• Any visible blood in the urine — please seek advice urgently
• New or worsening leaking, in men or women
• Sudden urgency or a markedly overactive bladder

None of these should be dismissed as “just getting older”. The sooner we know, the more we can do — and there is far more treatment available than most people realise.
