Safe practice is my priority

Let me talk you through my first complication — and how it was handled safely, effectively, and calmly.
Before and after results were beautiful, with no immediate concerns post-treatment. Capillary refill was normal, and I advised the patient they may experience bruising/haematoma to the lower left lip, which appeared quickly after treatment. The patient followed all aftercare advice perfectly.
Fast forward to 7:30pm the following evening… and I received that message all practitioners dread (for the first time). The patient reached out for reassurance and a review via photos.
There was significant bruising to the bottom lip, extending bilaterally along the lip border.
Without hesitation, we packed up in Glencoe and headed home, offering a face-to-face review in clinic that same night.
Patient safety and reassurance will always be my priority — and that’s exactly how it was handled. We stayed in close contact throughout. By morning, swelling and bruising had already improved, with no pain or blanching. However, to be risk-averse, I carried out a patch test for hyaluronidase and made the decision to dissolve.
I’ve reassured my patient that once fully healed and settled, I’ll treat her again at no cost.
