Berwick & Borders Yoga

Berwick & Borders Yoga Worried about not being able to touch your toes? Come along and find out why that doesn't matter! I first went along to classes to keep a friend company.

I've practised yoga for 30 years, taught for ten, co-founder of Babyama Wellness Hub, not very bendy, excellent at lying down. I hope to build a community of like-minded yoga enthusiasts throughout Berwick and the Borders region. My name is Trood and I've been practising yoga for the past 25 years. I confess, I was more interested in the coffee and cake we went for afterwards...

As time went on

I realised that I was getting more out of yoga than the physical challenge (and the cake); it was bringing me a sense of calm, and for the first time I was gaining an insight into who I really was. Wind forward to last year. Feeling trapped in an unrewarding job, with children grown and in the process of flying the nest, I realised there was nothing holding me back but fear. I took the plunge and successfully gained my 500-hour, CYQ Level 3 Diploma in Teaching Yoga. I can honestly say it was the toughest thing I have ever done, but definitely one of the most rewarding. I work with a sense of fun, acceptance and irreverence. There's a lot of laughter. Come and join me. Classes are 60 (Flow) or 90 minutes (Hatha) long and cost £9.00 (or £7.50 when bought as a block). No need to bring anything other than a mat and a willingness to let go. I'll see you soon!

It's so disappointing when you discover your greatest inspirations are but flawed creatures.

In the meantime, feast your eyes on this stunning piece of secondhand loveliness! 😍

Getting home to find a mysterious, but obviously most excellent friend, has dropped this through my door.

Firstly, great books are always cause for gratitude.

Secondly, isn't it nice when someone knows what your idea of a great read is? 🥰

Feeling nostalgic for yester-Insta. Y'know, when we'd bring our over-filtered food to be enjoyed at this once glorious community pot-luck?

This old-school jam and coconut sponge, for instance, blushing prettily against its pink china plate.

Look how it doesn't move or shout, the only thing to read a leisurely narrative proposed by the cake fork here.

No hustle, hype or hysteria.

Just us, in communion, over our little pleasures.

I went and bloody forgot, okay? AGAIN.

But Ayshea-on-Wednesday didn't drop the ball, oh no. Which meant we all had a blissful start to our session that we could carry into the rest of our practice.

For many of us, quiet is unsettling. Instead of bringing relaxation, it can raise our hackles.

Not surprising. Our culture does everything at high speed and through a megaphone. Our brains have been programmed to seek constant stimulation and become anxious when it can't find it.

Being still, being comfortable in silence, is therefore a skill that's beneficial to relearn.

Why?

Because our nervous system desperately needs to unplug from time to time if it's to remain resilient and avoid burn-out.

Now, I love our little yoga community. I love listening to the chatter, the catching-up when we come together every week. That's important for our wellbeing too.

But also we need some quiet time, a safe space to recentre and turn inwards.

So for this block, ssshhhh, my Beautiful Mat People.

Sssshhhh!

Back home today in the comforting familiarity of North Sea drizzle, I'm reflecting on the two whole days of indecent heat we experienced en vacances.

The first day was a wonderful respite for my knuckles, which were fatiguing hard from having had to clutch my cardie across my chest for the previous four days.

The second day, and I was skulking like Varney the Vampyr from shade to shadow muttering about spontaneous combustion and SPFs.

Still, if this was to have been our summer, I am glad to have experienced it.

As I said in the latest newsletter that should be winging its way to you, my week away has been one of, er... contrasts!...

As I said in the latest newsletter that should be winging its way to you, my week away has been one of, er... contrasts!

But, wow and holy-moly, what a special place to take time out. Bliss! I hope you've managed some quality downtime too, whether abroad or lying feet-up in a quiet corner. 🤗

Back to bending, building, bonding and breathing this Monday, starting a new block but still with emphasis on finding functional support for our spines.

And telling our head to ... wind its neck in? 🤔😘T x

Oh, Dearest Mat People! You know how for the past fortnight I've been whanging on about not being there because I'm here?

I wasn't making it up.

I am here, not there. Until 1st June.

So I hope this little tickle will help es**rt the info from the forgotten corners of your brain's Drawer of Doom to take centre stage on your gleaming cerebral Counter of Anamnesis.

Because, no. Not there. Here. HERE! 🤪T x

Next block available for booking on website. [Bio]

👇What a brilliant and fun way to spend a Saturday afternoon!

A workshop looking at the aerodynamics required for Crow Pose, the yoga classic intro to arm balances.

Just cos it’s an intro doesn't mean it's easy. It's not, but ...
.. neither is it hard.

Because it's an attitude, innt? A vibe, with so many things in play.

Sure, strength. But not as much as you'd think.

Flexibility, yep. Body AND mind. This is a pose to test your mentals as much as your physicals.

Body proportions. Maybe you have Acme-certified upper-arm length, maybe you've borrowed arms from a t-rex.

But most of all, this pose is about physics. How to find balance and counterbalance, lift and groundedness.

This is very much a pose that happens in the in-between.

When you find that, take-off can feel weightless.

Until then, it's always okay to keep your feet on the ground.

Thank you to the wonderful Murder of Crows who workshopped with me this afternoon. Whether you flew or not, you bloody soared! 🥰🙏T x
