MNDA Luton & South Beds

MNDA Luton & South Beds This is the page for people in Luton and South Bedfordshire who are affected by Motor Neurone Disease

26/02/2021

We are excited to announce that on the 1st March the Luton and South Beds Group and the North Beds Group will be merging to form one countywide Bedfordshire Group. The North Beds Group will be rebranding their page to MNDA Bedfordshire at the end of February.

Over the last few years the number of members and volunteers in both groups has declined and we have realised that bringing the two groups together is our best way to survive and thrive.

Our aim is that with the strength of a revitalised, combined, countywide group we can more easily arrange fundraising activities, hold meetings in several different areas and use the internet to enhance the support we can offer to people living with MND and their families throughout Bedfordshire.

We would love you to be a part of this change, so please like and follow us:

We may have been a little quiet for a bit - you've probably heard enough about 'these unprecedented times'- but we've still been actively supporting individuals over the past months ensuring they have the equipment and support they need.
During this time, and following some unsuccessful appeals for new volunteers and ideas for new events, we've also been looking at ways to secure our future as a branch.
We are thrilled to say that plans are afoot, and we very much look forward to sharing those plans.. 😏😁⏱
In the meantime please don't hesitate to get in touch if you, or someone you know, are affected by MND and would benefit from our help, advice or support.

With less than a week to go until the general election, we are calling on the next government to to ensure all terminally ill people can access welfare benefits quickly and sensitively.

Currently, people with motor neurone disease can only access disability benefits quickly if a medical professional can say the person will die within 6 months. Terminally ill people don't have time to wait.

With just a few days to go to until the vote, we want as many parliamentary candidates as possible to pledge to scrap 6 months. Visit 📣 mndassociation.org/scrap6months to find out how you can help!

Following the success of their Charity Gala in 2015, raising £9000 for MND Association, Neil and Carl Rutherford produce a glitzy new Charity Gala Concert in aid of MOTOR NERONE DISEASE, which their father died of in 2014. With a live 36 piece orchestra, a choir of 40 and leading West End stars including ALICE FEARN (Wicked, Shrek, Oliver), OLIVER SAVILE (Les Miserables, Cats, Phantom of the Opera, Company), DEAN JOHN-WILSON (Aladdin, King and I, Britain’s Got Talent), JAMES HUME (Les Miserables, Mary Poppins) and LYNSEY BRITTON (Guys and Dolls, Titanic, Cats) this new Gala Concert promises to be even bigger and better than the last. Celebrating musical theatre and raising awareness of Motor Neurone Disease, tickets are going fast. The Gala Concert is on Sunday 3rd November 2019, 7.00pm at the Concert Hall at the Stevenage Leisure Centre and tickets can be booked at www.gordon-craig.co.uk or by phone 01438 363200.

If you have lost a loved one or friend to MND, there is also an opportunity to remember them in the concert. Please send a picture and their name to [email protected] and they will be included in the Remembrance section of the concert.

We hope to see you at the Gala. Thank you, and please share this post or tell your friends and colleagues.

It's worth catching up on this programme which aired on Radio 2 today. An inspiriational man...
However it was disheartening to hear how some families had been left with debts after buying essential equipment, thinking there was no assistance available. This is exactly what local fundraising is for.
Please help us to spread the word that help is available through all local branches.
If people are unsure as to which local branch to contact, Head Office can help to identify where to go.

West Midlands Police's Assistant Chief Constable is refusing to let terminal illness stop him working.
