Music has always been more than an art form in Indian culture; it is a spiritual discipline, a means of healing, and a pathway to transcendence. Ancient scriptures described sound (Nada) as divine, while modern neuroscience increasingly supports the therapeutic potential of music.
A Raga is more than just a melodic framework—it’s a vibrational pathway to emotional and spiritual healing. Each Raga is composed of specific notes (Swaras) and patterns that are believed to correspond with particular moods (rasa), times of day, and even energy centres (chakras) in the body. This ancient knowledge recognizes sound not merely as entertainment, but as a transformative force and healing power.
The practice of listening to a morning Raga engages the nervous system, mind, and breath in a deeply therapeutic way. Ragas are rooted in the ancient scriptures and therapeutic traditions of Nada Yoga (the yoga of sound), the belief is that specific ragas resonate with the human body’s energy centres and emotional frequencies, thus helping balance mental, emotional, and physical health.
🎶 Raga performed by the very talented Nick Able, professional Musician, Composer and Teacher living in Newcastle Upon Tyne, a student and disciple of the legendary Maestro Ravi Shankar.
🌺Silence is Golden.
"Silence is the crucial container where the energetic shifts and healing vibrations of sound are actually absorbed and integrated by the mind and body." Johnathan Goldman
It is in the space, the silence, the in-between where we truly can find rest, seek a settlement, begin to unfurl and allow ourselves to soften.
