🚨 WHAT IF YOUR PAIN ALARM HAS BECOME TOO SENSITIVE?
Imagine your body's nervous system as an alarm system.
Its job is to keep you safe.
If there's a genuine threat, it sounds the alarm:
“Pay attention! Something isn't safe.”
That's incredibly useful.
But imagine your smoke alarm becoming so sensitive that it starts going off when you make toast.
There isn't a house fire.
But the alarm is still very real.
Something similar can happen with persistent pain.
After injury, illness, prolonged stress or repeated experiences of pain, the nervous system can become more protective and more sensitive.
It can start responding to signals that aren't actually dangerous.
The result?
🔥 Pain
🔥 Tightness
🔥 Fatigue
🔥 Sensitivity
🔥 Fear of movement
🔥 Symptoms that feel bigger or more widespread than expected
And importantly…
This doesn't mean the pain is imaginary.
The alarm is real.
The experience is real.
The good news is that nervous systems can also learn safety.
At Osteopathy For All, we help people understand what their body may be trying to communicate and, where appropriate, use a combination of gentle osteopathy, education and mind-body approaches to support recovery.
Sometimes recovery starts with learning that your body isn't broken.
It may simply be trying too hard to protect you. 💚
