Imagine being told for 25 years that your pain is incurable – then making a full recovery within six weeks. That’s exactly what happened to one of the case studies in this episode and his story is far from exceptional. Could it be that much of the chronic pain we accept in life isn’t evidence ...

📚 Exciting news in the world of chronic pain recovery…

This week saw the launch of Howard Schubiner’s new book, Unlearn Your Pain — a powerful and hopeful resource exploring the science of chronic pain, neuroplastic symptoms, and the mind-body connection.

Dr Schubiner has been one of the leading voices helping people understand that persistent pain is often influenced not only by tissues and structures, but also by the brain, nervous system, stress responses, emotions, and learned protective patterns.

Importantly, this does not mean symptoms are “made up” or “all in the mind.” The pain is real. But the nervous system can sometimes become overprotective — and the hopeful part is that the brain and body are capable of change.

At Osteopathy For All, this understanding closely aligns with our whole-person approach to persistent pain. Alongside hands-on osteopathy, we help people explore:
🧠 nervous system sensitisation
🌿 stress and pain responses
💛 fear and safety in the body
🚶 movement confidence
✨ the body’s capacity to heal and adapt

The growing research around neuroplasticity and chronic pain is bringing hope to many people who have felt stuck, frightened, or unheard for years.

If you are curious about the mind-body connection and modern pain science, Howard Schubiner’s work is well worth exploring.

☀️ A gentle reminder in the heat…

Our bodies are always working to keep us safe and balanced. In hot weather, they have to work much harder behind the scenes — cooling us down, regulating fluids, supporting circulation, and keeping the nervous system steady.

Sometimes that extra effort can show up as:
• fatigue
• headaches
• dizziness
• increased pain or inflammation
• feeling irritable or overwhelmed
• poor sleep
• heavier or more “achy” bodies

This isn’t weakness — it’s physiology.

Heat can place extra demands on the nervous system and cardiovascular system, especially if you are already living with stress, chronic pain, hypermobility, fatigue, or a sensitive system.

A few gentle ways to support your body:
💧 hydrate regularly
🌿 slow down where possible
🥗 eat nourishing foods
😴 prioritise rest and sleep
🚶 move gently rather than pushing through
🌳 seek shade, nature, and cooler spaces
🫶 listen when your body asks for pause

Sometimes wellbeing is not about doing more, but about responding kindly to what your body is already telling you.

Your body is wise. The more we learn to work with it rather than against it, the more supported and resilient we often feel 💛
