💜 International Day of Charity ✨

Today, on International Day of Charity, we’re celebrating the people and support that make Sunshine Coast Breastfeeding Support possible.

We founded this charity because we wanted to provide more free support to breastfeeding families in our community and make sure every family has the option of accessing the support they need.

As trustees, we’ve each had very different feeding journeys, but we all needed and valued additional support along the way. We know what a difference having someone there to listen, reassure and encourage can make, and we want every family to have that opportunity. 🫶

Since starting the charity, our team has grown, including wonderful volunteers who have joined us following their own journeys and wanted to give something back to their community. We all give our time to help keep the charity running and support families.

There are lots of ways you can support us too:

✨ Donate to help with the running costs of the charity and keep our services free.

✨ Follow and share our socials and services so more families know that support is available.

✨ Get involved by coming along to our events, fundraisers and community events.

Charity isn’t just about giving money though, it’s about giving your time, sharing knowledge, creating connections and supporting the community.

We’re incredibly grateful to everyone who supports us in any way. 💜

🍂 Today at café we were chatting about things we can still get out and do with our little ones as the weather starts to cool down.

Some of the ideas shared were:
🏊 Swimming
📚 The library
🍂 Getting out into nature with a coat on or baby in the carrier, puddle jumping, walking the dog and playing in the fallen leaves
🧸 ESK for role play, sensory and messy play
🌈 Hailsham sensory room
🍰 M&S on a Tuesday for free cake
🤸 Soft play
🛍️ Going round the shops

It was lovely to see a mix of new and familiar faces at café today, with lots of chatting, feeding, support and catching up. 💜

Our breastfeeding professional will be back with us next week, and we can’t wait to see you all again! 🫶

Let us know in the comments what your favourite things to do with your little ones when the weather turns cooler ⬇️

✨ Share the Love Saturday 🫶

This week we're sharing some lovely words from one of our community mums about the support she received on her exclusive pumping journey.

We're so proud to support families in finding the feeding journey that works for them, and knowing that our support can give someone the confidence to keep going means so much to us.

Thank you for your beautiful review and for letting us be part of your journey. 💜

💜 A Little Thank You to Jayne! ✨

This week was Jayne’s last café session before she heads back to work, so we wanted to take a moment to say a huge thank you for all the time, care and support she has given to our community of mums.

Volunteers like Jayne are such an important part of what makes our charity a welcoming, supportive space for parents and babies. We know she will miss seeing each and every one of you on Wednesdays 🫶🏻

We’re wishing Jayne all the very best as she returns to work, and we’re delighted that she’s still keen to support the charity in other ways when she can. 💜

As babies grow, breastfeeding rarely stays the same, and that’s completely normal. ❤️

We had a lovely discussion in our group about how feeds can change as babies get older. Some babies may feed less frequently but for longer, while others become incredibly efficient and have much shorter feeds. And sometimes they suddenly want to feed more again!

Positioning can change too. What worked beautifully with a tiny newborn might not feel comfortable for an older, more mobile baby. As babies grow, they may prefer sitting more upright, doing headstands and feeding in different positions, or even twisting themselves into their own creative version of breastfeeding! 😂

The best part? There isn’t one “correct” way for an older baby to breastfeed.

You shared some brilliant insights and experiences, proof that babies are individuals and breastfeeding evolves with them. 💕
Hope to see you next week!

❓ Did You Know?
Starting solids and stopping breastfeeding are two completely separate milestones. 🤍

Breastfeeding can continue alongside solid foods, and remains part of your baby's nutrition during their first year and beyond.

There is no set age when you have to stop breastfeeding. When you choose to wean from the breast is your decision, and every family's journey will look different.

Whether you breastfeed for a few weeks, months, two years or beyond, your journey is yours. 💜

3 min frantic feeds instead of long cosy cuddles?
Gymnurstics for a baby who needed careful positioning in the early week?
We cover them both!
This week we discuss how breastfeeding changes with time: in length, frequency and positioning.

Join us on Wednesday to ask your questions, share experiences with other Mums and to receive friendly support 🙌🏼

See you then!

💡 Fun Fact Friday!

Did you know that the metabolic energy needed to breastfeed your baby each day is roughly equivalent to the energy you use walking 7 miles? 🤯

Breastfeeding takes a lot of energy, with your body working around the clock to produce milk for your baby.

Just another reminder of the incredible work your body is doing while you breastfeed, even when you don’t realise it. 💜
