1-7 June is Volunteers Week and we are sharing stories of EHSCP colleagues who give up their time for good causes and share stories of those who volunteer within the Partnership.

Megan Dudgeon has been fundraising all year in support of her best friend Alix who has Acute Myeloid Leukaemia. Ali’s Army is a campaign to complete 100 challenges in 100 days – reflecting the vital milestone in stem cell recovery of 100 days.

Megan, reablement manager for the south west, has recruited many of her colleagues to also take on challenges for Ali’s Army with all proceeds going to Maggie’s Edinburgh.

The North West Reablement Team raised an incredible £3,160 through a combination of climbing a Munro and hosting a fun dress-up day at work.

Lisa Forbes, reablement manager in south east , took on a cycling challenge alongside her daughter Amelia, age 11 and Jade McCormack from south west reablement bravely completed a cold-water dip in support of the campaign. Bradley Ralton, team leader in north west has ran an incredible 100km in the month of May for the cause.

Ali’s Army has now raised over £31,000 for Maggie’s Edinburgh.

John Ovens is a care and support practitioner who is gearing up for his fourth stint volunteering at Commonwealth Games.

John said: “I got the volunteering bug for major sporting events about eight years ago now, when I was accepted to be a volunteer are the European Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

“The diving competition was held in the Commonwealth Pool in Edinburgh and I really enjoyed giving up my time to help ensure the event went smoothly.

“Since then, I have volunteered at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, the World Cycling Championships in Glasgow and now I have been accepted for the Commonwealth Games 2026 in Glasgow.

“I have always been a volunteer in spectator services, making the guest feel safe, being on hand to answer any questions , moonlighting as a photographer or dishing out high fiving with foam fingers.

“I feel the last spectator that leave the venue deserves the same energy as the first person to arrive.

“I love volunteering and would urge anyone with even a little spare time to look into where their skills could be utilised and jump into volunteering.”

Six weeks left to share your views!

Edinburgh residents are being asked to give their views on a safer drug consumption facility (SDCF).

Until 1 July, people can take part in the SDCF survey – a place where problem drug users can consume drugs with medical supervision. There is no site agreed, but two areas of the Old Town are being considered.
