Why visible veins are only part of the story
The veins you can see on the surface are often only part of the picture.

With varicose veins, the cause may come from deeper veins that are not visible when you look at your legs. That is why an ultrasound scan is such an important part of your consultation at Scottish Vein Centre.

The scan helps us see where the reflux is coming from, where the leak points are and what treatment may be most appropriate for you.

Without that information, it would be very difficult to create a proper treatment plan.

Your first visit is all about understanding you, not rushing you.

We start with a detailed conversation about your symptoms, concerns and what you’re hoping to achieve.

You’ll then have a Doppler ultrasound scan, carried out by the same specialist who will guide your treatment. This allows us to see exactly what is happening beneath the surface.

Once the scan is complete, we will talk you through the results there and then.

If treatment is suitable, you’ll be given a clear, fully costed plan with no pressure to proceed.

Meet Raj, Consultant Interventional Radiologist at Scottish Vein Centre.

Raj is an image-guided surgeon and vascular specialist with more than 20 years of experience treating problems with arteries and veins.

Varicose vein treatment has changed significantly over the years, moving from traditional open surgery to modern, image-guided, minimally invasive treatment.

That is where Raj’s experience is so important.

Using image guidance allows him to understand what is happening beneath the surface and treat varicose veins with accuracy, care and high clinical standards.

For Raj, this work is not just a job. It is something he genuinely enjoys and feels passionate about.

Away from work, Raj loves spending time in the Scottish countryside with his son, who has recently become very passionate about hill walking. Although Raj admits he has a fear of heights, he still enjoys getting out into the hills, even if he does not always make it right to the edge.

Originally brought up in a beautiful part of India, Raj has now lived in Scotland for 25 years and says he absolutely loves it here.
