The College has unveiled a new portrait of a pioneering Indian female Fellow, Dr Krishnabai Kelavka, commissioned and donated to the College by Dr Kelavkar’s great grand nephew, Dr Shyam Kelavkar. Dr Krishnabai Kelavkar (1879-1969) was one of the earliest women physicians in India and a committed social reformer.

The College warmly congratulates our immediate past President, Professor Andrew Elder, on being awarded an OBE in the King’s Birthday Honours for services to medicine and medical education. Professor Elder was a distinguished consultant in acute medicine of the elderly for many years and was the first geriatrician to become President of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh. He has also made a major contribution to medical education including curriculum development and teaching and is a recognised expert in assessing core bedside skills.
