Calling Islay, Peterhead, Elgin and Dumfries!

If you're looking for advice and support, or are a friend or family member of someone with sight loss, come along and speak to us. Find us on:

Wednesday 9 September: Isle of Islay. We'll be attending a Sight Loss Information Day arranged by Argyll & Bute Sensory Services. 10am & 2pm at the Gaelic Centre, Gartnatra.

Wednesday 16 September: Peterhead. We'll be attending an Information Day Drop-in Event hosted by Aberdeenshire Council Sensory Impairment Network group. 10am- 3pm at The Salvation Army Hall, 47 Windmill Street.

Thursday 17 September: Elgin. We're holding an Information Drop-in Session 10:30am - 2pm within Elgin Library.

Friday 18 September: Lockerbie. We'll be returning to Dumfries and Galloway for an Information Drop-In from 12pm - 2pm at Lockerbie Library.

The Accessible Book & Story Festival on 11-12 September at the Scottish Storytelling Centre is for anyone who is curious about how books and stories can be made fun and engaging for children with additional needs.

Our friends at My Kind of Book would particularly like to highlight the events on Saturday 12 September which focus on tactile books and stories, with workshops exploring the design of tactile books and how to create meaningful tactile stories.

They'll also be joined by renowned French organisation Dreaming Fingers, who have been creating tactile books for children with a visual impairment for thirty years. It's a unique opportunity to share knowledge and learn exciting new skills.

Robert H. King is a visually impaired digital photographer who will be hosting an exhibition of his works in Glasgow this September.

Robert has previously collaborated with us as a Community Curator on a display at Kelvin Hall with Glasgow Museums.

Now, he's exhibiting two sets of work: ‘Shadow Of An Echo’ and ‘Everything Near Becomes Distant’, which offer a powerful, complementary exploration of sight loss, memory and identity.

You are invited to the exhibition launch on Thursday 3 September at 6pm - head along and bring friends and family.

Find the exhibition at 103 Trongate, Argyle Street, Glasgow from 3 September to 11 October. Open 7 days a week.

Come and meet our pals from Guide Dogs Scotland to learn more- whether you're a guide dog owner, applicant, prospective applicant, or simply interested in finding out more.

They'll be at our Edinburgh hub on Hillside Crescent, on Wednesday 9 September, 1:30pm - 3:30pm to chat all things Guide Dogs. No appointment needed, just drop in!

From September, there will be scaffolding outside our Edinburgh office as part of renovation works to the upper floors of the building (which are not RNIB premises).

The area outside our café downstairs will be partially affected, but our office, community hub and services remain open as usual. Access to our building remains step-free and safe for all visitors, including those using guide dogs. Works are expected to continue until early summer 2027.

Please pop us a message if you have any concerns- we'd love to see you soon!

We were joined by international showdown player, Richard Wheatly today to learn how to play showdown!

Richard showed everyone how a game of showdown is played, how to serve, defend and score points. Our players had a great time!
