36 YEARS OF BEING HERE FOR YOU Health All Round is a registered charity and voluntary sector agency which aims to support people living in Gorgie Dalry, Saughton, Stenhouse and sur

rounding areas of Edinburgh to live longer, healthier lives. Using a community development approach we provide services focusing on physical, social and emotional wellbeing and aim to build social capital and reduce inequalities within the city of Edinburgh. We are able to provide a wide range of services because we involve local people in all that we do – through volunteering, through consultation and by working together to meet the whole community’s needs. We deliver a range of free or low cost services to improve people’s physical, social and mental wellbeing and 200 – 250 people access HAR services every week.

80% people accessing HAR services have a long term health condition or disability. Since our establishment in 1989 our evaluation, including before and after scores, has demonstrated the effectiveness of our services in helping people to feel and live better.

Now *this* is truly flying the nest… a baby blue tit landed on our ecotherapy group this week! 🐣

We took some silent time to appreciate what we could experience outdoors through our senses. Then we specifically spent time focusing on the amazing scents in the spring gardens of Saughton Park.

To our surprise, this baby blue tit landed on the head of a group member, obviously showing its appreciation for our love of nature!

CHILDRENS BOOKS NEEDED URGENTLY

Hello everyone, we have been partnering with The Children's Book Project for a while now and we are in need of children's books as we currently have none left in stock.
So far, thanks to you, our generous Health All Round friends 823 books have been donated.
These have now all been put out in bookcases and into the wee hands of bairns at the medical practices we work in.

You can drop any spare chiildrens books that you may have into our office at 24 Westfield Avenue Monday to Thursday from 9.30am to 4pm

Thank you.

Ed, our Action For Pain coordinator, attended a 2-day masterclass in Manchester with Dr Howard Schubiner - a renowned expert in treatment of chronic pain conditions.

The training covered Pain Reprocessing Therapy (PRT) and Emotional Awareness and Expression Therapy (EAET) both of which underpin the Action For Pain approach to helping people with chronic pain.

Fittingly, these pictures include Louise McAllan who facilitated Health All Round’s recent EAET group and regularly tells her story on the Action For Pain course. There is nothing quite like being surrounded by over 100 people who are all dedicated to helping people recover from chronic conditions.

What an honour! As Ed said, “These two days have been the best training I’ve ever attended.”

Yesterday our Women On The Loose group had a marvelous day out at Aberdour Castle and Gardens thanks to Historic Environment Scotland
What an amazing Castle this is and the gardens are superb.
The group were enthralled by this beautifully preserved castle to such an extent that they went completely medievally bonkers ☺️
The bus trip home comprised of the number 7 to Inverkeithing where we later stood and watched the X58 bus taking the wrong route and not picking us up, so it was then off to Rosyth on the number 7 where we caught the fantabulous Ember Dundee to Edinburgh service. What a luxurious bus that was with its leather recliners and toilet It even had curtains!
The ladies have well and truly earned their Pathfinder badge 👍🏴‍☠️

What is YOUR favourite day out and why? Tell us in the comments. 👍

Last Monday our Women On The Loose group visited Edinburgh Castle.
Some of the group had not been there for over 30 years!
It was packed with tourists and the chap in the ticket office said that they get 10,000 visitors A DAY!!!! Crazy eh!

Anyhoo, a big Health All Round 'thank you' to Historic Environment Scotland for hosting us and making some dreams come true.

What are your own memories of Edinburgh Castle and Princes Street?
Please do leave a comment. 👍

🌀Sometimes feel like your mind races with constant chatter?
🌀Hard to find peace of mind in everyday life?
Meditation is a brilliant tool for calming the mind and letting go of stress and anxiety.

☀️ This week, our Meditation Group took in the sunshine and met in-person in Saughton Park. We spent a peaceful 50 minutes silently being present, with meditation instructor Stephen guiding the small group with gentle prompts.

🌱 The group meets twice per month - once online and once in-person - and it's 100% free. To sign up, you just need to email Stephen at [email protected]
