PCOS has a new name: PMOS 💜

PMOS stands for Polyendocrine Metabolic Ovarian Syndrome.

This change matters because the old name made many people think the condition was only about ovarian “cysts”, when actually it can affect much more than that.

PMOS better reflects the wider impact on hormones, metabolism, skin, periods, fertility, weight, insulin regulation and long term health.

For many women, this name change may feel validating. It recognises that symptoms can go far beyond the ovaries and that the condition deserves a whole body approach.

I’ll explain more in the caption and future posts, but for now, the key message is this:

PCOS has not disappeared. The understanding of it is evolving.

Why I Stopped Blaming Myself For My Weight Gain

As a GP, I see every day how many women struggle with weight gain in midlife.

As a woman in my 40s, I understand it personally too.

Over the years, I have navigated chronic illness, pain, stress, poor sleep, family pressures, medications, and now the hormonal changes that come with perimenopause. Like many women, I have experienced the frustration of feeling as though my body is no longer responding in the way it once did.

My initial motivation for learning more about menopause, lifestyle medicine, and health coaching was actually for myself. I wanted to better understand what was happening to my own body and what I could realistically do about it.

What I then realised was just how many women were facing the same challenges.

In general practice, I would often have only ten minutes with a patient. We could barely scratch the surface. There simply wasn’t enough time to properly discuss hormones, muscle loss, sleep, stress, cortisol, blood sugar balance, nutrition, exercise, behaviour change, and all the other factors that influence weight and wellbeing in midlife.

Women deserve more than a quick conversation and a generic piece of advice.

This is one of the reasons I became a Health Coach alongside my work as a GP. I wanted to have the time and tools to help women better understand their bodies and make sustainable changes that work in real life.

Today, 3rd June at 7pm I am hosting a webinar on Menopause and Weight Gain in Midlife.

We’ll explore what perimenopause and menopause actually are, why weight gain becomes more common during this stage of life, and some of the key factors that influence it, including muscle loss, stress, cortisol, sleep, and blood sugar balance.

Most importantly, we’ll discuss practical, evidence based lifestyle approaches that can help women feel healthier, stronger, and more in control.

🎟 Tickets are £8

I have been overwhelmed by the response so far, with over 40 women already booked on. It is clear that this is a conversation many of us need to be having.

Myth Busting Mondays - Do we all need supplements?

It depends.

As a GP and Health Coach, I see people at both ends of the spectrum. Some are taking multiple supplements without a clear reason, while others may actually benefit from targeted support but are unsure where to start.

Whether supplements are helpful depends on many factors, including your diet, lifestyle, life stage, medical history, absorption, and whether a true deficiency is present.

Supplements are not a replacement for the foundations of health such as sleep, nutrition, movement and stress management. When used, they should be specific, evidence based and appropriate for the individual.

If you are unsure whether supplements are right for you, it is best to discuss this with your GP or a qualified healthcare professional who can guide you safely.

✨ What is happening metabolically
✨ Realistic strategies that can genuinely help

No fad diets.
No shame.
