Tattooing a banana

In one of my previous videos, I explained how I bought my first two tattoo machines from an American company called Spaulding &Rogers, in the form a bag of bits, and put the machines together myself.

I also explain how I did my very first tattoo practice on fruit, mainly bananas.

I still have those same two machines, but I haven’t tattooed with them since the 1990’s - come to think of it, I haven’t tattooed a banana since then either - so I thought it would be a fun experiment to tattoo a banana using those very machines, complete with the tiny tubes they came with, and make a video.

Since the machines have sat in their boxes for over thirty years, there were a couple of teething problems…

All in all though, I managed to get a fairly reasonable result- I even took a ‘healed’ shot a couple of days later to finish up with.

If you’re a coil machine history buff, and are interested in the machines themselves, I’m putting together a separate video all about them, from ordering, to kit form, to tattooing, and will hopefully get that out soon.

Thanks for watching, and if you’re interested in more of this old time tattoo nonsense, please like and share the videos, and ask whatever questions you have in the comments below.

Bye for now!

Continuing the theme of photographing my clients healed tattoos when they come in for the next one - here’s Deborah’s antique roses from a few months ago now all healed and lovely 🌹

We completed her sleeve today with a lovely pale pink rose and bud near her armpit - but might need to photograph that one healed because it came out gorgeous, but it’s just a bit TOO pink just now 😬💕

The ‘sister’ tattoo to yesterday’s flapper butterfly girl.

It’s been a while since I did one of my ‘lady head’ tattoos - I’m at the stage now where I’d really love to start doing them again!

So drop me an email if you’d like one of these guys, or, just as much fun, you have ideas about how you’d like your own one.

Cheers!

New flapper girl butterfly design available for tattooing!

Flapper girls were renowned for breaking the rules when it came to young ladies - drinking, smoking, chopping off their hair, having adventures… great role models for young women everywhere….

And this one just happens to be in suffragette colours.

Perfect 💜💚

Just drop me an email if you’re interested… thanks!

I’ve been slowly adding to Deborah’s vintage style floral sleeve over the last few years - now there’s just a couple of small gaps to fill.

Deborah has been living a vintage lifestyle for many years now, wearing forties style clothing (much of it true vintage) and forties style hair, and her home is a veritable treasure trove of flowery delights from the past!

The inspiration for the different elements of her tattoo have come from various sources - she has brought me in a china plate, a scented candle box, and most recently a small (and beautiful) painting of roses she picked up on holiday in Nice.

I’ve altered - I would say ‘tattooified’ - some of the designs - so that they will not only last better as tattoos but also fit more coherently together as a sleeve.

Very happy to say she loves her ‘vintage tattoo arm’ to bits, and I’m very happy with how it looks too - it’s a particular passion of mine to make people’s tattoos look like they are part of them and though I say so myself I’ve got pretty good at it over the years! 😂

So if you have a particular style in mind and would like to know how it would work out as a tattoo drop me an email and start a discussion:

DOLLY!

Had great fun doing this Dolly Parton tattoo today for Lesley - the colours need to settle down a bit because I made her hair suuuper blonde 😂

I don’t know Dolly, but from what I hear she sounds like a pretty cool person.

She certainly makes a great tattoo subject ♥️

Aaaand - I even remembered to take a photo of Lesley’s beautifully healed wee white dove from last time 🕊️ - swipe to see him in all his white loveliness 🤍

Spring is in the air!

No doubt there will be that ‘surprise’ dip into sleet and howling gales for a couple of weeks , but there’s no denying it now - buds are appearing, flowers are opening, and there’s a lot of very lively wee birds about….

What better way to celebrate the coming of spring than with this wee flowery fox - swipe to see the black and white version, and again to see the model for this design, snoozing by our compost heap!

Serena was back in Edinburgh today, all the way from Orkney, to get this wee delft china style owl in honour of her gran 💙🩵

Actually remembered to take a few pics (I’m learning! 😁) of the process too…

OK I forgot to do the pic of the stencil before I’d actually started tattooing, so that involved a glove change, but anyway, tattoo came out great and we’re both really happy so that’s the important bit!

Just one idea for placement for these flowery ladies - one on a shoulder, or one on each shoulder.

Or two peony ladies, one on each shoulder.

Or somewhere completely different, but you get the idea!
