Busy and satisfying day today. Planted our seeds for veg and herb growing, got our final raised bed built in the polytunnel and our potting table built. Also got a stile built to help me manage heavy supers at the apairy. Half filled with soil but trying not to kill my back by being impatient and doing all 28 bags of soil at once. It's a trek from the car to the polytunnel.

So many people are running on empty right now — feeling wired, tired, anxious, or just not themselves — without realising how much cortisol and chronic stress are at the root.
In tomorrow’s session, we’ll go deeper than just symptoms. We’ll explore:

🌿 What cortisol is actually doing in your body (and why it can feel so confusing)🌿 The difference between high cortisol vs burnout/low cortisol states🌿 How stress impacts your sleep, weight, blood sugar, hormones and immune system🌿 Why you might feel “wired but exhausted” or completely drained🌿 Practical herbal and functional medicine strategies to regulate your stress response🌿 Simple, realistic ways to start restoring energy, calm and resilience

This isn’t about pushing through or “just managing stress”…
It’s about understanding your body and giving it what it actually needs to come back into balance.

Chronic stress affects every system in the body — from digestion and hormones to sleep and immunity. We’ll also look at mindset, boundaries, and gentle lifestyle practices that make a meaningful difference, alongside a deeper dive into functional medicine — including what to look for in symptoms and clinical testing when stress becomes chronic.

Hi All,

With spring just around the corner, there is a quiet sense of renewal beginning to appear again in nature. In challenging times across the world, these seasonal changes can offer a small but important reminder that cycles of growth and restoration are always present. It’s also a natural moment to think about our own wellbeing — how stress affects us, how our gut supports our health, and what we can do to bring the body back into balance.

I'm also very aware of how stress is affecting the people that I'm meeting with and with this in mind, have decided to run two workshops this month offering some help and insight into ways to help us cope and gain control.

Im once again keeping these at low cost so that the information can reach as many people as possible so I'd love if you could share with friends and family - maybe someone you know would like some positive affirmative information that would allow them to gain a little bit of agency.

So here we go! Two - ONLINE workshops - which will be recorded incase you can't make it on the actual Day.

Cost of each workshop is £39 plus VAT

Workshop 1
Root Cause Reset: Steady the Storm
Wednesday 18th March 6pm

Many of us live with stress for so long that it begins to feel normal.

But stress was never meant to be permanent.

In small doses it can motivate us, sharpen our thinking, and help us respond to challenges. But when it becomes constant, the body begins to pay the price.

In my upcoming workshop “Root Cause Reset: Steady the Storm”, we’ll explore what is really happening inside the body when stress becomes chronic — from both a functional medicine and herbal medicine perspective.

Together we’ll explore questions such as:

• How do you know when stress is becoming harmful rather than motivating?
• What are the clinical markers of chronic stress?
• What are the four main classifications of stress?
• What exactly is cortisol and how does it affect the whole body?
• What clinical tests can help us measure stress in the body?
• Most importantly — what can you do about it so you are back in the driving seat?

Stress doesn't just affect your mood. It influences:

Blood sugar

Hormones

Gut health

Immune resilience

Brain health

Sleep

Energy

Understanding the root cause of stress responses can transform the way we care for our health.

This workshop will give you practical tools, clinical insight, and natural strategies so you can begin steadying the storm rather than being caught in it.

Workshop 2
Gut Instinct
Wednesday 25th March 6pm

Gut Instinct: Listening to your inner ecosystem

Your gut is far more than a digestive tube.

It is a complex ecosystem that influences nearly every system in the body.

In my second workshop “Gut Instinct”, we’ll explore how your gut shapes your health in ways many people never realise.

We’ll look at:

• The anatomy of the gut
• The gut microbiome and why it matters
• The gut’s role in overall health
• The gut–metabolism connection
• The gut–hormone connection
• The gut–behaviour and mood connection
• A functional medicine approach to gut healing

Along the way you might be surprised by what you discover…

Did you know:

• Around 70–80% of your immune system is located in the gut?
• Your gut bacteria help regulate immune cell development?
• Many important vitamins such as B vitamins and vitamin K are synthesised in the gut?
• Your gut influences metabolism, weight regulation, hormonal balance and mood - in fact so many things its hard to list?
• Around 90–95% of serotonin — a key mood-regulating neurotransmitter — is produced in the gut?

When your gut is balanced - so are you!

If you’d like to learn how to understand, indentify gut issues, repair and support your gut health naturally, this workshop will give you both the science and the practical tools.

Booking link https://l.bttr.to/RGujv

These workshops are designed to be informative, welcoming and practical, with plenty of opportunity for discussion and questions. Each workshop will last around an hour and a half.

If you feel your body might be trying to tell you something — about stress, digestion, energy, or resilience — these sessions will help you understand the deeper story behind your symptoms. It would be lovely to see you there and to spend some time supporting you.

In the meantime - I'm hoping for a more peaceful and joyous few months to come.

Warmly,
Jean

Introduction to Functional Medicine & Herbal Healing Workshops

ONLINE WORKSHOPS

I’m delighted to invite you to join me for two in-depth, practical workshops designed to help you better understand your body, your symptoms, and the root causes of health challenges. My work brings together functional medicine and traditional herbal medicine — combining modern science, clinical testing, and physiology with the wisdom of plant medicine and holistic care.

Functional medicine and herbal medicine looks beyond labels and diagnoses to ask a deeper question: why is this happening?

Rather than simply managing symptoms, we explore the underlying imbalances in systems such as digestion, hormones, stress response, immunity, and metabolism. When we understand the root drivers, we can create more effective, personalised strategies for healing and resilience.

As a medical herbalist and functional medicine practitioner based in Scotland, I focus on prevention, nourishment, and empowering people to take an active role in their health. These workshops are designed to be engaging, accessible, and educational — whether you are completely new to these ideas or already on your health journey.

You’ll learn how to recognise patterns in your own body, understand symptoms more clearly, and discover practical tools including nutrition, lifestyle strategies, and herbal medicines that can support real change.
Below are the two upcoming sessions:

Ive just uploaded a new blog on my website for anyone interested in learning a little but more about Weight Loss Drugs.

If you’ve opened a newspaper, scrolled social media, or spoken to almost anyone about weight loss in the past year, you’ll have heard about GLP-1 medications. Drugs such as Ozempic, Wegovy and Mounjaro are being described as “game-changers”, and for some people they absolutely can be helpful...

One of our Herbal teachers (Kerry Bone) said this.

This is the difference between whole plant medicine and reductionist "extracts" that many non- herbalists use. Nature is perfection in its own right and doesn't need our interference.

This is why I only ever use whole plant medicines in practice.
