Really valuable learning today, gaining a deeper understanding of the effects of an Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) on children and their families.

Some people may be living with a brain injury without even knowing it, with difficulties sometimes only becoming apparent later when learning new skills or facing new challenges.
A reminder of how important it is for us as professionals to stay curious, informed, patient and understanding.

Huge thanks to the Brain Injury Trust for such an informative and thought-provoking day.

Kindred responded to the Supporting Children's Learning - Code of Practice statutory guidance consultation.

Read a more detailed summary of our response below:

We agree the refreshed guidance makes clear it is a statutory document, but in practice we routinely see children’s rights being ignored and do not see this will change through guidance alone.

This guidance is reflective of legislation, however, it is not representative of what families experience in practice. Many families feel they have to fight for the support their child needs.

Overall, Kindred appreciates the value that the code places on the benefits of advocacy and a parent’s right to advocacy. We hope that in the future there will be a commitment to funding that can make that right a reality to families across Scotland.
