Yesterday, we took time out for one of our favourite things - our regular team training session πŸ™ŒπŸ½ And this one landed on a glorious sunny day! πŸ™ŒπŸ½ 🌞

This learning opportunity was all about assessing the upper body across movement patterns to ensure we continue to deftly establish the issues that lead to pain or physical limitations πŸ€Έβ€β™€οΈπŸ‹β€β™‚οΈ

Our team training days are a great opportunity to brush up on new skills and tackle how to use these in hands-on workshops where we learn from one of the most trusted voices in the industry, Clinic Director Kelly Marshall.

If you're a runner read this!

If you're struggling with achillies tendonopathy, plantar fasciitis or many of the other common but avoidable runners injuries, or simply struggling to improve, this lesson in viewing your body as a car addresses the biomechanics your body needs you to hear!

🚘The engine! For effective performance, a car needs a well looked after engine for endurance, speed and the miles asked of it. But! It's the chassis that bears the load for a quality and comfortable ride..

The same can be said of your body, it requires the same two key components, but it's the latter that's all too often overlooked! So what does this mean?

🎽Runners love to run, and the more you practice the more efficent your heart and lungs as an engine become. So you can run more, and further. Infact, you can feel 'fit' pretty quickly. So you start to go further..

But.. if you're one of the many who then take your 'car' out more because you 'can', but ignore the structural integrity this demands, then handling and performance will be impeded when you start racking up multiple miles under the weight of your body accelerating, decelerating, and absorbing the force of weight and gravity.

Physical limitations are not normal, but somehow putting up with them is!! Lets talk about the normalisation of pain...

Don't believe the narrative that because you've been injured you'll never be the same again ❌️

Don't rely solely on an MRI (it's a narrative captured in picture not a life sentence) ❌️

Don't trust the people saying that you've got older now, so this is the way it is (that's their choice, not THE narrative) ❌️

Don't settle for a chronic pain diagnosis without a treatment plan to see you out the other side (the diagnosis is only half the story) ❌️

The only thing normal about these phrases is that society has normalised decline because so many people are afraid of doing the work, or have never sought the right help themselves

We have never seen a client who we can't help physically improve their life πŸ™ŒπŸ½

Let's normalise a narrative that encourages people to get the help that works!

Our clients continue to do amazing things!!

Behind the scenes, Steph's been working with a talented showjumper to improve overall performance and address a lower back ni**le πŸ‡

Through bespoke PT, she identified and worked on core and glute imbalances along with the need for general core strength to see him sit stronger in the saddle.

Small tweaks can lead to big gains, and learning of tangible results after hours of hard work in the clinic make us all smile 🐴

Not only is he now completely pain-free across day to day life, but he recently came 4th in the Joshua Jones Discovery Championship at the Blue Chip Winter Showjumping Championships πŸ†- a major UK event held at Addington Equestrian in Buckinghamshire. An incredible achievement and stunning performance!! πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§

5 people with shoulder pain don't all need the exact same treatment!

What they need are careful, detailed analysis of the issue, followed by bespoke care πŸ₯

One might need a general 'MOT’ following competition exertion or workplace repetition (hairdressers, plumbers, nurses), another might command specific focus on a common complaint (rotator cuff injury, frozen shoulder, bursitis), the next might present us with a fresh injury/tear through to something thats been restricting use for years πŸ“†...

One might be 'fixed' after one session, another might need more detailed work around a long-standing problem or chronic pain/injury, the next referral to our clinic director...

Whatever you bring, the tools we deploy are always selected using a clinicians expertise to work with your body and its backstory to help achieve optimum condition πŸ“„πŸ₯Ό

Our clients choose to come to us for all kinds of reasons, how you leave (or stay!) is down to the effort and work you put in with the tools we give you! πŸ›  🧰

Amy's story is nothing short of transformational, a story worth telling because it demonstrates what can be achieved if you're willing to play the long game when it comes to effort and consistency πŸ™ŒπŸ½πŸ™ŒπŸ½πŸ™ŒπŸ½

Amy came to us 18 months ago, predominantly working 1-1 with Jess here in the studio to build strength and confidence in the gym, with a specific view to learn how to do a pull-up (many of us have that one thing that we want that will 'prove' our hard work to us. For Amy, this was it!)

We had to navigate a few pre-existing conditions, including scoliosis (a curvature of the spine), which meant Amy’s upper body was a particularly weak area. Jess and Amy began training once a week in person, whilst Amy followed a programme outside of that to improve even faster πŸ—“

During this process, it became clear to Jess that there were a number of dysfunctional movement patterns as witnessed in Amy’s training that were going to hold her back without a closer approach. This is where Kelly and our triage service came in!

With the help of a multidisciplinary team approach to pain and movement issues, including a movement assessment and bespoke daily programming (designed by Kelly in addition to Amy’s work with Jess), Amy is moving from strength to strength (having now progressed onto barbell movements and callisthenics! πŸ€Έβ€β™€οΈ)

We love a story like this around what can be achieved. Limits are often a mindset, but if you can push past that, you'll likely surprise yourself with what your body can do!!

We're summer ready!!

Are you?

The fitness goals you set at the beginning of the year should be starting to repay you now if you put your dreams into actionable plans πŸ™ŒπŸ½ But if you didn't, it can feel pretty tough at this time of year. This is the point where you can choose to wait another year or go again now. Please go again now!

You aren't a failure unless you stop trying. Small steps consistently over time are the best steps.

New to exercise? Start with a short daily walk if you can, feel the sun on your face, within a few weeks your body will start to crave to the buzz that moving your body brings.

Familiar with exercise and wanted more? It's not uncommon to have start that 'more' several times before you get into a better rhythm or realise that what you actually need is a structure that works for you.

Many people struggle because the internet is awash with 'do this', 'do that', and 'perfect, look what I achieved stories', and frankly? It's confusing and often demoralising.
