Moray Ultrasound offers a range of musculoskeletal (MSK) scans, carried out by specialist, experienced sonographers.

These scans look at the soft tissues in the body, things like muscles, tendons, ligaments and joints, and are often used to investigate pain, swelling or reduced movement.

A pelvic ultrasound isn't only useful when you already know what you're looking for.

Often, the reason for having a scan is much simpler: something has changed and you'd like to understand why.

Perhaps your periods have become heavier or more painful. You may be experiencing bleeding between periods, pelvic discomfort or pressure, or symptoms that have persisted without a clear explanation. You might also have been advised to have a scan following a GP appointment or other investigation.

Ultrasound gives your sonographer a real-time view of the pelvic organs and can provide information that helps build a clearer picture of what may be happening.

Sometimes a scan identifies a common, benign condition. Sometimes everything appears as expected. And occasionally, a finding may need further investigation through your GP or another healthcare professional.

That's an important distinction: an ultrasound is an investigation, not a catch-all diagnostic test. Its value lies in providing useful information that can help inform what happens next.

September is Gynaecological Cancer Awareness Month.

There are five main types of gynaecological cancer: ovarian, womb (endometrial), cervical, v***al and vaginal cancer.

Symptoms can vary depending on the type of cancer, but changes worth speaking to your GP about can include:

• Persistent bloating or a swollen tummy
• Pelvic or abdominal pain
• Unusual vaginal bleeding or discharge
• Changes to your usual bladder or bowel habits
• Feeling full more quickly than usual
• Persistent itching, soreness or changes to the skin around the v***a

These symptoms can have many causes and don't necessarily mean cancer, but it's important to get persistent, new or unusual symptoms checked.

Throughout September, we'll be sharing more information about pelvic health, symptoms to be aware of and the role ultrasound can play in investigating some gynaecological concerns.

Testicular ultrasound scans aren’t only used to investigate lumps.

They’re also used to look at how blood is flowing within the testicles, which can help assess conditions such as torsion or circulation issues. Ultrasound can identify signs of inflammation or infection, including epididymitis or orchitis, and can show fluid build-up around the testicle, such as a hydrocele.

In some cases, a testicular ultrasound is used as part of follow-up after treatment, surgery or injury, helping to monitor changes over time and provide clearer information for ongoing care.
