A little Calm Minds reminder for the bank holiday weekend…

I’ve been quiet on here recently, but sometimes that’s exactly what we talk about at Calm Minds - You don’t always have to be “doing.”

Sometimes life gets busy or our brains get busy. And sometimes we need to just step back, take a breath and enjoy a bit of space.

Soooo, with the bank holiday weekend here, why not make a little time for you?

💚 Go for a walk - even if the sun’s hiding away. Fresh air and a change of scenery doesn’t sound like much, but can make a big difference.

🐌 Have a slowwww morning - no rushing, no guilt, no to-do list. Just drink that coffee in peace.

📵 Give your brain a break - put that phone down! Step away from social media and stop taking in everyone else’s lives for a minute.

🕺🏻 Do something just for fun - paint, draw, bake, read, listen to music, get outside… whatever makes you smile, it doesn’t have to be productive to be worth doing.

🛋️ Rest - PROPERLY rest. This means without convincing yourself that you should be doing something else or something “more”.

💭 Check in with yourself - ask “How am I actually feeling?” Or “What do I actually need right now?” rather than straight to “I’m fine.”

🫶🏼 Spend time with people who make you feel good - and remember that it’s also okay to say a big fat no to plans if you need some quiet time.

And perhaps the biggest reminder of all…

Self-care isn’t another thing you need to get right.

It doesn’t need to look perfect, doesn’t need to cost money and it doesn’t need to be “another job”. Sometimes self-care is just recognising that it’s time to be a little kinder to yourself.

That’s really at the heart of what Calm Minds is about - creating space to pause, reflect, connect and look after the person who often gets forgotten in the middle of everything else…

You 🤍

So whatever you’re up to this bank holiday weekend, I hope you find a little pocket of calm somewhere.

And if you’re lucky enough to spot the sun… please send it my way! ☀️😇

Happy bank holiday weekend!

Had a fab morning teaching a lovely group of counsellors about creativity in the therapy room 🤍
Had to have a giggle at myself though when talking about how “letters never sent” can be helpful and encourage honesty and instead said they encourage fear 😂
Thank you to everyone who attended!

“Letters never sent” are letters written to others or to parts of self, containing thoughts and feelings that are intentionally kept instead of being sent. These can be useful for people who are holding on to unprocessed emotions surrounding relationships, for processing grief or for gaining clarity before a real conversation.
Using this type of letter can promote healing, emotional release & honest expression 🤍

“I’m not creative”

Something I hear at the beginning of every Calm Minds session!

That’s why we start with something simple - drawing how we feel. Sounds weird right?

And honestly… this is often met with a LOT of hesitation 😂

“I can’t draw.”
“I don’t know what to do.”
“What if it looks rubbish?”
“I’m overthinking this”

And that’s exactly why we do it! ✏️

Firstly, it’s a really simple way of removing some of the pressure and easing some of the anxiety around creating, whilst reminding ourselves that there is absolutely no right or wrong way to do it.

Secondly, it also helps us switch off that busy, thinking, analysing part of our brain for a little while and start engaging with the more creative side.

And I love seeing the difference 🤍

At first, people can be really unsure… but once we get onto the bigger creative pieces, you really notice the difference. People relax, get stuck in, experiment & most importantly - they stop worrying about whether they’re doing it “right”.

These little drawings might look simple, but they’re actually the perfect starting point. As you can see - everyone’s doodle is completely different, which emphasises that you can’t get it wrong!

And I think they’re a lovely reminder that you don’t have to be “good at art” to be creative.

Sometimes you just need to give yourself permission to have a go ✨

I've been a bit quieter on here recently whilst trying to organise a trip. Something about me, is I’m a person who often tries to juggle all the things at once, but when life gets busy, I've learned the importance of being intentional about where my energy goes. Taking a step back when needed is all part of looking after ourselves.

Social media can be a wonderful place to connect, learn and support one another, but sometimes it feels so demanding. Taking a step away is also part of protecting our wellbeing, not neglecting it.

One of the messages I share through Calm Minds, the workshops, and the Overthinkers Club is that rest isn't something we earn once everything is done. Giving ourselves permission to pause in between is also incredibly important.

I'm reallllly looking forward to some time away to switch off, recharge & have a change of scenery. And I'm also excited for all the lovely things waiting when I return — the workshops, Overthinkers Club sessions, and continuing to create spaces where people can slow down, feel supported, and prioritise their mental wellbeing.

I hope you're all finding moments to give yourselves a break too, however that looks for you. Your wellbeing matters.

See you soon! 🤍
