🧴 Is sunscreen the cause of cancer?

Short answer: No.

In fact, sunscreen is designed to help protect your skin from harmful UV radiation—one of the leading causes of skin cancer.

So why do some people think sunscreen causes cancer?
🔹 Certain sunscreen ingredients have raised safety questions over the years.
🔹 Some studies found that ingredients can be absorbed through the skin.
🔹 This has led to headlines and confusion online.

But here’s what the evidence shows:
✅ UV exposure is a proven risk factor for skin cancer.
✅ Regular sunscreen use helps reduce sun damage and lowers the risk of skin cancers.
✅ Major health organizations continue to recommend sunscreen as part of sun protection.

The real danger isn’t sunscreen—it’s unprotected exposure to the sun.

Protect your skin:
☀️ Use broad-spectrum SPF 30+
🧢 Wear protective clothing and a hat
🌳 Seek shade during peak UV hours

Don’t let myths put your skin at risk. Check the evidence, not the headlines.

Implant-based breast reconstruction is often perceived as a straightforward journey, but the reality is far more complex.

Behind every reconstruction are multiple decisions, surgical stages, healing challenges, and personal adjustments.

Factors such as skin quality, radiation therapy, implant positioning, symmetry, and long-term outcomes all influence the final result.

Medical tattooing plays an important role in completing reconstruction for many patients.

Creating a natural-looking nipple-areola complex requires a combination of artistry, technical skill, colour theory, and an understanding of reconstructed breast anatomy.

Every treatment is tailored to the individual, taking into account scar tissue, skin characteristics, and personal goals.

The final stage of reconstruction is about more than appearance.

It’s about helping patients feel whole, confident, and comfortable in their bodies again.

☀️ Does sunscreen cause cancer?

Short answer: No.

There is no good evidence that sunscreen causes cancer.

In fact, research shows that sunscreen helps protect against skin cancer by reducing harmful UV exposure from the sun.

Why the confusion?

🔹 Some sunscreen ingredients can be absorbed into the bloodstream.

🔹 Detection in the blood does not mean they cause cancer or are harmful at normal levels.

🔹 Health experts and medical organizations continue to recommend sunscreen as a safe and effective way to protect your skin.

The real risk? UV radiation from the sun, which is a proven cause of skin cancer.

If you prefer, mineral sunscreens containing zinc oxide or titanium dioxide are effective alternatives.

🧴 Protect your skin:
✅ Use broad-spectrum SPF 50
✅ Reapply every 2 hours outdoors
✅ Wear protective clothing and seek shade

Bottom line: Sunscreen helps prevent skin cancer—it doesn’t cause it.

Strength training doesn’t directly kill cancer cells like a drug.

But your muscles act like an internal pharmacy.

When muscles contract, they release proteins called *myokines* that help regulate inflammation, support immune function, and improve metabolic health.

Research suggests strength training may:

💪 Improve insulin sensitivity, reducing growth signals that some cancers rely on.

💪 Help regulate hormone levels, including estrogen.

💪 Enhance blood flow and oxygen delivery, creating a healthier environment for treatment and recovery.

💪 Boost energy, strength, confidence, and overall quality of life.

Exercise isn’t a replacement for cancer treatment, but it can be a powerful tool to support your body during and after treatment.

Your muscles do much more than move you—they may help protect you too. ❤️

One of the most important conversations I have with patients during cancer treatment isn’t just about treatment plans.

It’s about life after surgery and helping people feel at home in their bodies again.

I often encourage patients to:

• Massage their scars and become familiar with the surgical site

• Include strength training when appropriate

• Prioritise protein intake

• Reduce processed foods where possible

• Wear SPF 50 to reduce chance of future cancers

• Consider supplements like creatine if suitable for them

• Try, as much as possible, to continue living a normal life

Recovery is not only physical.
It’s rebuilding confidence, strength, routine, and trust in your body again.

I have been working in the field of Plastic Surgery (recon, skin and burns) for 17+ years.

These are my tips for a speedy recovery.

Believe it or not, what you eat before and after surgery can directly impact how fast you heal.

If you have a poor diet, and eat food high in sugar and processed ingredients, you will be operating on a body in an inflamed condition... meaning it will heal poorly.

1-4 weeks Before surgery:

• Prioritize protein (eggs, fish, Greek yogurt, chicken, tofu)

• Eat vitamin C-rich foods for collagen + wound healing

• Stay hydrated

• Reduce alcohol and avoid smoking if possible.

After surgery:

• Focus on protein + fluids first

• Add fiber-rich foods to prevent constipation from pain meds

• Include anti-inflammatory foods like berries, olive oil, salmon, and leafy greens

Healing isn’t just about rest — nutrition is part of the recovery plan too.

Why are the face and ears considered high-risk areas for skin cancer?

Because these areas receive the highest lifetime exposure to UV radiation, the face and ears account for approximately 80–85% of Basal Cell Carcinoma (BCC) cases.

The ears and scalp are particularly vulnerable due to their rich blood supply, which can allow tumors to behave more aggressively. In advanced cases, treatment may require removal of cartilage and complex reconstruction using skin grafts or flaps.

Melanoma affecting the face can also be more aggressive because of the high concentration of lymph nodes in this region.

Protecting your skin is essential:
• Don’t forget the ears, nose, and scalp when applying sunscreen
• Reapply sunscreen regularly, especially during prolonged sun exposure
• Wear hats and seek shade where possible

Early prevention and detection save lives.

**Who would you trust?**

The influencer with zero medical experience telling you sunscreen is “toxic”…
Or the cancer nurse who has watched women under 40 die from melanoma?

Skin cancer isn’t aesthetic.
It isn’t “just a mole.”

It can mean surgeries, scars, repeated lesions that take months to heal… and constant fear of the next one.

And melanoma?
When it spreads, it’s aggressive. Fast. Deadly.

A tan fades.
Skin damage doesn’t.

Protect your skin:
☀️ SPF
🧢 Hats
👕 Cover up
⛱️ Avoid burning

Don’t take medical advice from people whose qualification is a ring light and a discount code.

The POWER of microneedling on scars ✨

Most people get annoyed when I refuse scar camouflage using ink and recommend inkless treatments instead.

It’s not because I don’t have the skill — it’s because in many cases, inkless microneedling can create incredible improvement naturally, without the long-term risk of ageing or discoloured pigments.

Skin changes over time. Pigment changes over time.
But stimulating your skin’s own healing response? That’s where the magic happens.

Sometimes less ink = better results. 🤍
