There are moments when we become completely absorbed in what is happening right now — when time seems to soften and there is nowhere else we need to be.

Perhaps it's while walking, creating something, sitting quietly, or simply noticing the world around us.

In those moments, thoughts may still come and go, but somehow we don’t need to follow them.

We can simply be here.

This week’s Substack post is a reflection about that quiet experience of staying in the moment — and allowing whatever arises to have a little space.

I hope you enjoy listening

And if you'd like to explore more of my reflections and poems, you'll find them gathered in A Quiet Pause with Annie on Substack.

A growing collection of gentle thoughts, pauses and moments of noticing.

When was the last time you got down on the floor without planning how you were going to get back up?

Living fully is most important as we age—whether that’s scrambling with the grandkids, enjoying picnics, beach days or outdoor pursuits.

All of which feels entirely different when getting up and down is effortless.

And almost all of that comes down to one essential movement: the squat.

It’s not about fitness, counting reps, or pushing your body. It’s about hip mobility.

Most people don't lose the ability to squat because they're getting older—they lose it because they stopped using their hips.

A few gentle, regular squat movements is all it takes to keep your hips supple and responsive.

Save this sequence for the next time you want to give your hips a little space to move.

Oh, what a fun challenge this was!

It can be intimidating when everyone’s posts look effortlessly flexible, but balance isn't about perfection. It’s something we cultivate continuously—young, middle-aged, or mature—meeting our body exactly as it is.

You don't need deep bends to feel strong and centered. A modest twist with steady focus does wonders to realign the body, lift you out of daily tension, and bring you right back home to yourself.

Begin by simply swaying with the air around you—softly caressing the environment and settling your nervous system.

With just a few simple, flowing movements, attention shifts effortlessly from the noise outside to the quiet within.

You open the mind, invite fresh vital power into your day, and feel genuinely alert and connected to the world around you.

This gentle shift doesn't require flexibility or practice.

It simply asks for a brief moment to pause, breathe, listen, and give yourself permission to return home to yourself.

No pressure, no expectations—just move at your own pace.

Drop a comment if you’re giving yourself permission to slow down today.

When you spend so much of our energy taking care of everyone else it’s easy to feel entirely disconnected from your own body.

This simple morning sequence isn't about pushing yourself hard.

It’s an invitation to come home to yourself—to stretch out the tightness in your spine, tension in your limbs, lift your face to the light, and remember how good it feels to just be.

Save this for the next morning you need a gentle nudge back to calm. ✨

Slow down, move with ease and return to yourself.

You don’t need to push harder or keep up with anyone else.

I’ve updated my website homepage - the heart of it remains simple: an open door to quiet, steady movement, and space to breathe.

No furious exercise. No pressure to fix anything. Just simple practices to help you switch off, calm your nervous system, and return home to yourself— knowing who you are and what you need to live with ease.

If you’re ready to slow down, explore Restoring Rhythm and Pillars of Meditation programmes, along with the Esher studio and online classes:

The door is open whenever you’re ready to step inside:

When life feels heavy or fast-paced, twisting movements like this help us let go of stored tension.

As we tap into the water element, every gentle twist acts as a natural rinse for the body. You’re squeezing out the old, stagnant energy and making space for quiet vitality, stillness, and trust.

Notice how lighter and grounded you feel after just a few breath cycles. 💙
